Is the Amex big enough?

The guy on my tour said it cant be developed further as it would mean major structural work which they won't get planning for.

Technically the North could be made steeper, and go back further into the stand without changing any of the structure.. Would have also been an option in the south before the new hospitality. Also the weird bits either end of the esu could be modified and take lots more seats. There is certainly space to squeeze an extra couple of thousand in.

Personally I dont believe we have the demand for it for all but a very few glory matches.

Better to be near full and keep demand for ST's than have lots of empty seats.

The ground cannot be physically expanded because of the method of construction of the two main stand roofs. More importantly we would never get planning permission. Never.

As things stand this could be our optimum season. With an increasing number of games falling in evenings more and more season ticket holders will find it difficult to attend and may decide to pay as they go next season unless we get promotion. I expect Championship attendances to peak at around 28K to 29K absolute max (away fans wont always - or even often - fill their allocation and there is always the H&S gap between seats to take into account).

30,000 seats even in the Premier League would be about right IMO on the basis of the old adage of "leave them wanting more". Balancing supply and demand may sound the best plan but actually you need demand to slightly exceed supply in order to accomodate natural wastage and create future demand

Between 33 and 40k is possible in the prem me thinks:)

In prem I think 35 regular and 40k for a few biggies, but the money it'd cost wouldn't make it viable. Plus the chances are we'd get relegated eventually and have a huge ground with a lot less fans, I firmly beleive we are in our glory years and it cannot always rely on things as good as they are.

If we were desperate I remember the club saying our seats are massive and lots of leg room too so we could perhaps buy cheeper thinner seats and if we squeeze them together both forward and back we may be able to fit a few more rows in on each stand and say 5 rows extra in the WSU,WSL, South, ESU, ESL, North that'd add a few thousand extra surely.

I believe our fan base is growing by the week which bodes well for the future, can't see us dropping below 18k for a good decade,if we dropped to league 1 we can sell cheaper tickets,so plenty of options.

Surely easier just to stick one of those Arsenal-style North Bank murals depicting rows of fans behind the existing North Stand seats rather than putting in any extra seats. At least then the North Stand would appear to go back a respectable distance.

I'd be interested to see the attendance stats for the prem. If we did manage 28/29/30k it'd surely be in the top dozen or so? I think people are overestimating our attraction - we're not a team who can pull in huge crowds week in week out, or at least not in the bottom half of the prem, which IF we were to get promoted would be realistically the best we could hope for, the top 7 or 8 sides have a financial and footballing stranglehold on the division. Get to Wembley for a play off or cup final and we might flog a full 40/45k - but we have absolutely no need for a stadium that size for a bog standard wet February Tuesday. I'd rather have 30k in a 30k stadium than 30k in a 45k stadium anyhow.

Agree entirely. Let's pull it down and move back to Withdean temporarily again while we go through the planning process and then hopefully build a bigger stadium. Obvious really.
