...and you're just completely ignoring what the England manager said about the incident then, the clinching evidence? Does it help you come to terms with defeat better to live in this fog of denial?

My instant reaction was that he was off.

However after seeing the replays, I'm tended to think that the sending off was for the push, or that maybe that the other players reaction made the referees mind up. In all honesty the "stamping" is hardly conclusive.

Importantly just to be pedantic, Errikson said he hadn't spoken to the referee

What you seem to be relying on is your impression of what happened by looking at a TV screen, now that I think is genuinely circumstantial!

Errikson also said he had seen a brief replay of the incident on a "very small monitor"

Convenient for Errikson in many ways ?

I suspect so. This was his final bow and how handy to be able to blame a player, whether guilty or not. I'm honestly not sure.

BBC website:

Eriksson revealed he had spoken to referee Horacio Elizondo after the game against Portugal, which was decided by a penalty shoot-out, and had "no complaints" about the decision to send off Rooney.

"I spoke to Wayne after the game and he had no intention to do it," said Eriksson.

"I also went to the referee to speak and he was 100% sure it was a red card. He told me he hit the other player and where he was hit so I can't complain about that."

Radio 5 were quoting the Ref today, saying he sent Rooney off for the stamp. Was not influenced by Ronaldo and Sven went into his dressing room and congratulated him and said "the sending off was deserved"!

All all of these facts the ref would say this he has to stand his ground. He had no make an instant decision. He was close to the incident and if he had made his mind up b4 Ronaldo got involved. Then fair enough.

Personally I am not convinced that it was intentional but really only Rooney really knows.

What does **** me off, is that the Ref should had pulled play up b4. Rooney was being man handled, he had been tripped twice and kicked from behind twice. Potentially all free kicks and FIFA sanctioned bookable offences.

Sven just doesn't care now he had done his job and hopes he will never see an English shirt again!
