HG201 - It's not that simple. If the players had been built up to be division winners, with us constantly being told how great they were, and earned tens of thousands of pounds a week, only to then cruise through the season without apparently trying that hard and without ever reaching any kind of standard even vaguely approaching what we've been told they can reach.

If one of them then criticised the supporters who follow them over the country, with one of them saying how much he hated Brighton and its fans, before then potentially buggering off to another club prepared to pay him even more money, and the club then appeared to not care that this had all happened and expected us to just turn up and support them again as if all was well, then I might think about it. That might make me sufficiently disillusioned to bail out.

So in short you believed all the hype? without actually understanding that as a country we have been overtaken by a lot other footballing countries now and therefore being ranked in the top 8 is probably about where we should be and no more. And losing to Germany wasn't the big disgrace that people are making it to be.

When did we last lose to a side ranked outside of the top ten?

We f***ed up by not beating the USA and Algeria for sure. We disappointed. But if the media tell us we're great and can win the world cup we are idiots to think we have any more chance than any of the other top ten sides. Our day will come but we're not world beaters, just because we operate in a more than competitive league.

Serious question - what's wrong with Wembley?

I've not been.

it is soulless

Spot on.

I view Wembley in a similar vain to the Goldstone. Yes the old Wembley was a shit hole but it was special day out. Walking out on to Wembley was gave me the same feeling as I got walking up the steps to the back on the north stand. New Wembley is an impressive bit of architecture but it's just a soulless lump of metal on a north London industrial estate. Wembley Way no longer has all the burger vans and dodgy fellas selling their knock off scarves and flags. The concourse round the ground has nothing, not even the official merchandise stores. It's all designed to get you in the door and spending £9 on their crappy food.

I've probably been 10 times since it's re-opened and the only time I've lasted to the end of an event was when I was there as Tommy Corporate.

For every England match I buy four tickets. 75% of the the time I go with mates but because I bought the England v Hungary tickets back in April/May I didn't consider the fact that I was going to be on holiday. :dunce:

Now normally if I can't go this isn't a problem as I know loads of people who will take them off me for close to face value. This time however completely nothing from mates etc so I resorted to posting on here. A few sniffs but I still have the tickets.

Now before anyone shouts spam, I am genuinely shocked. I'm selling them for the same price as a seat at Withdean, and regardless of what you say about England's performance at the world cup, it is still a high level of football at the best stadium in the country and all for £20 per seat.

So am I the only moron that still supports his country??:vuvueng:

There's a large element of fair weathered fans in life and even (suprisingly as they're Albion fans) on here mate. Not gonna go any further than that as i've had enough England binfests on here to last a life time :)

Oh and on that note Wembley is absolutely fantastic - one of the best stadiums in the world for sure and in my opinion isn't soulless at all it'as actually quite a good atmo at England games as you get a lot of hardcoere fans there...

How the hell people can slag that magnificent stadium off really is beyond me - it's a sensational piece of architecture and I love three tiered stadiums.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
When did u go there out of interest?

I went to the opening (happy clappy U21 game) and have been back on a 'business trip'.

I'm not talking about the atmosphere. I just find the whole stadium dull and unimaginative. The whole area is plain and depressing.

Give me Twickenham anyday.

Edit: I pass it regularly on the train and forgot I had been there for an American Foolsball game. Just doesn't do anything for me as a structure.

I think most people will forgive their team, even England, for playing poorly. However,it was the perceived lack of effort and caring that really pissed people off this time.
I think that the arrogance of the players and management is also a factor.I completely lost any small sense of caring that I had left when at 4-1 down with 15 minutes remaining, Capello deciced to introduce that waste of space Heskey to save us.
He knew what 90% of the country felt about Heskey, but he flipped us the bird.ARSEHOLE.:wanker::wanker:

I really do hope Falmer will not suffer the same fate

The true supporters as always are still behind the team. The first game of a brave new era for our national team and I am sure in a few years I will be proud to say I was one of the 60,000+ who were there.

I think part of Arthur's point overlaps with my point about it being a house instead of a home.

With Falmer the stadium has a history, and the fans have a connection to it already. When we move it it won't be a case of going from a place that has been our home, that has a rich history to it into a building that we never really needed in the first place.

We will be moving into our new home, a home we have fought for for so many years. A home that we been on marches for, a home for a club that almost went bust. A home we can call our own after having had to share Gillingham, and make do with an amateur athletics stadium. This is our home. It doesn't matter if it isn't perfect, it's ours. It doesn't matter that the bricks and steel don't have a history, the project itself has its own history, and that will tide us over as the team makes new on field history for the stadium.

Wembley doesn't belong to any club in particular, so going there is nothing special. Especially since it doesn't have the fabled history of the old wembley. Falmer, however, will be ours. It's been 13+ years in the making. Some of us have lost friends and family members waiting for it to be built. That first journey to the stadium will be intensely emotional for most long term fans. I will probably walk there, and that walk along the lewes road is going to have a buzz abvout it before I'm past Moulsecoomb school, seeing the complete stadium on the horizon, knowing that I'm going to the stadium and not just past it, knowing that we finally have somewhere to call home, walking along the concourse, even if it had been designed as plain brick would still send shivers down spines.

There is no fear in my mind, that Falmer could turn out like Wembley.
