Literally one month ago, we were about to play Man Utd with serious ambitions of winning that game, which in turn would have triggered European football talk.

Not that he hasn't got questions to answer. He's no world beater but the problems we're seeing are not entirely his fault.

The loss of Burn and Ashworth have affected the club more than anyone would have expected, and on the pitch things have just unravelled. Sanchez looks village, Trossard is anonymous every game, we don't look like scoring, our defence is shaky. But these are mostly the same players that up until 4 weeks ago were playing superbly. That's why I go back to Burn and Ashworth leaving making all the difference.

We have a big summer ahead of us, especially for Potter.

Ashworth had no involvement in day to day football matters so that cant have made any difference. Burn was in great form but was actually 4th choice most of the season. It's Dunks awful form after returning, and a missing Webster that have been the real issue at the back, but what on earth has happened to the midfield and attack? If you cant score a goal you can never win a football match and this run is as bad as we've seen in the Prem league years up front.

I don't disagree with anything you say except that sometimes non playing club staff have an impact on the dressing room and morale about the place. Burn was clearly a popular squad member and much appreciated even when not playing, and who knows what Ashworth's presence around the club meant?

Other than that, I echo what you say. The form of some very senior players has fallen off a cliff.

I don't recall lots of Potter outs after Burnley/Villa/Newcastle. I don't see how anyone who wasn't Potter out after the Newcastle loss (on the back of losses against burnley and villa, one win in 10, 5 losses in 6) would be Potter out now - did anyone really expect victories against liverpool and spurs? Is losing to a team in the title race and another trying to get top 4 really yourr breaking point?

And? So where does the £140m Prem money go then, plus sponsorship, tickets, etc? Surely some of that is for net transfer outlay? We’ve got one of the lowest wage bills in this division. We have one of the highest paid CEOs though……..

In the last released accounts (for 19/20) we had ‘football costs’ of £115m, which is mainly player salaries but also coaching and academy costs. We also had player trading loss (from contract amortisation) of £45m. Against a covid-affected turnover of 139m, you can see that this already results in a loss before non-playing costs are even taken into account. Total loss was over 60m for that season. Well you did ask where the money went!

Can’t see that 20/21 loss will be much less, especially as the entire season was behind closed doors. Although with the 70m transfer money in this year, we should make a 10-20m profit to offset a bit of that.

I am very impressed. I never watched this on TV as I am a massive fan of the books and wanted to watch at my leisure, 'some day'.

The early ones are a bit fey, with Miss Lemon and Hastings. The later ones are dark. I love them both.

No. And I'll state now, I am NOT a 'Potter out'. But its the worrying nature of the defeats that are now stacking up, one after the other.

Previously we've put up a fight, caused problems, looked dynamic, been solid and difficult to beat. Thats now GONE. Since half time at Old Trafford, as [MENTION=232]Simster[/MENTION] correctly states, the form of our senior players has fallen off a cliff. I don't know why. I don't know how. But we are a shadow of the team that was previously so obstinate, staying in games, hitting late goals to salvage results.

Maybe that was all luck ? I dunno. But I have literally not seen us play a decent half of football since Man U. Everything went to shit after half time that night, when Biss got mugged and Ronaldo ploughed it in. We've been flakey and crap ever since.

I think it was Potter himself who said that you’re never as good as the compliments say when you’re winning nor as bad as the brickbats indicate when you’re losing. I suspect there’s some truth in that.

We’re a lower half PL side that happened to put together a decent half season. It’s now evening out. I expect we’ll end up in the 38-42 point range.

Whether that’s good enough for TB is another matter…

Exactly.

We were supposedly brilliant with the same set of players in the first half of the season, and now we’ve sold Dan Burn we are shit.

Perhaps it is all down to Dan Burn. Since they signed him they have been fantastic.

Dan Burn is a walking team in his own right.

(This last bit is a joke for anyone thinking of replying)

We got the rub of the green at the start of the season. Thank God, as I think we’d being going down otherwise.
