"My bad". I find this phrase incredibly annoying. I know language evolves etc. Does anybody else hate this term. What's wrong with mistake or fault.

I would say I only use it in an ironic or inapproprite situation.

I.e When a threw some keys at my girlfriend yesterday when she asked for them. I forgot to check in advance that she wanted to catch them and they hit her in the face.

This is when "my bad" is reeled out. It also needs to be said over-enthusiatically to add to the 'whoops' factor

I am also the same, although I didn't hit her in the face with my keys.......instead it was a truck.

It's another terrible Amercanism, which is only used by tools.

Talking of Americanisms, have you seen the Tropicana advert where an American makes repeated attempts at saying the word "orange" but fails miserably every time?

I agree it is a terrible **** of a saying but I am sure a load of middle aged parents ridiculed us for saying "wotcha"

The missing words in the middle are "command of the English language is".

That wouldn't make any sense.

Why, when throwing the keys at my girlfriend's face, would I respond with "My command of the English language is bad".

She wouldn't find that adorable AT ALL.

I dislike it, but I imagine everyone will be saying it in a few years and we'll all get used to it. Apparently in a few years we'll all be saying 'init', so a professor of Linguistics told me.

The OP has really DROPPED THE BALL on this one.

"My bad" has been used by Shakespeare:

Sonnet 112:

Your love and pity doth the impression fill
Which vulgar scandal stamp'd upon my brow;
For what care I who calls me well or ill,
So you o'er-green my bad, my good allow?

PROOF.

Also used by REM and previously 'popularised' in the 1970's apparently.
