Is Holroyd sh*t? Another Davies/Dickinson?

I'd say it would be rare a player being on professional teams books and dropping out the league only to make it and make it big. It can happen but unlikely.

To be fair to Holyroyd, he looks far better than Robinson / Dixon / Gatting etc did .

May be ok , too early to tell. We should know by the end of the season

lets face it, it would'nt be NSC without a weekly witch hunt!

and yes there really are some complete morons who support our football club!

Couldn't agree more, strange how it's always the same handful of 'fans' who start these threads ? Never mind, if they like being laughed at good for them.

The amusing thing is that a number of people on here were slagging off Forster when he only scored 2 goals in his first 10 to 15 games saying what a waste of money he was.

To be honest, I think Poyet believes (as I do) that we will stay up and the only way for Holroyd to improve is to give him game time. The idiots slagging him off on this thread are the sort of people who only judge a striker by the number of goals they score not their overall game. Luckily Poyet disagrees. He has looked quite good to me in most games since he signed and although he did nothing yesterday there was no service. I am sure even the most anti Holroyd "Brighton fan" would agree he is clearly a lot better than Dixon who cost a similar amount.

To be honest, I am amazed that a) someone started this thread and b) so many people agreed with him. But then this is NSC and we can't be seen to be supporting players if they don't have a stormer every game.

Que?

He was MOM against Huddersfield, and looked a real lively threat when he came on at Charlton the other week.

Those slating him may well turn out be right in the long run, but you've really got to give the lad a chance FFS.

I wouldnt say he looks to be any better than Robinson or Gatting at least they scored some goals but only time will tell and we must wait and see but please Gus dont put him on in front of Forster when we need a goal.

But there's more to the Forster situation than we know, if it was on football terms only then I'm sure he'd put him on first.

Agree with what you said about not putting him on whaen we're a goal down and chasing the game. Even Murray wasn't getting the chances today, Holdroyd was on a hiding to nothing whaen he came on, it's a bit of a confidence killer for a new player.

In my opinion..

He's a different option to what we have. He's not a physical player, but has a lot of speed and our midfielders need to start playing balls behind the defence for him to run onto. His whole game is about sitting on the shoulder of the defence!

The idiot who said we should of got Ademeno from Crawley because he was "Banging them in"..

A) So was Holroyd at that level

B) We don't need another lump up front, Holroyd gives us pace and once he gets used to this level, he could become a valuable asset. We aren't going up or down this season so let's see what he is like NOW rather than next season when hopefully we will be gearing for promotion..

This why I believe, and have said , that I think that Poyet should be very selective in when he brings Holdroyd on so as to shield him from the flack he will get from the fans if he doesnt score soon. Isnt the reason that you sign a striker is to score goals. I would agree that there probably is a lot more to the Forster affair than we know, as has become apparent.

He has looked lively, but its about getting into the right places, even if the crosses dont get there, yes the boy works hard, he runs around alot, same as Revell, and in my opinion, never should have got rid of him...

but if we dont start seeing a return, i would like to see Forster play untill we are Guarenteed safety

B) We don't need another lump up front,

It was a big lump up front that saved us at the back end of last season (Owusu) with an assist by OGH. Defenders don't like playing against big lumps at this level, it panics them. Whereas they'll happily contain the likes of Holroyd all day long. Easy day at the office.

We already have Davies and Dickinson, both could play this role. Ademeno would more likely be another Nathan Elder.

He's goign to come clean. You can't expect that given less than three games worth of football, for him to get hattricks every game.

Given the fact we still prefere arial balls, if we had a stricker partnering him with strength and a decent pass, who can set him off then he'll score.

Murray is shit in the air so service isn't getting to him. Hardly means he is shit. Who at our level is fantasticly pased, with great arial ability, who can play off the last man, is young, cheap and can do it all? He's a specific type of stricker, not wayne rooney in disguise. give the lad a chance!

Theyre tall, but not 'lumps' like Owusu, Kevin Davies etc

Are you seriously a fan of players like that? Fortunately Gus is trying to play passing football and not resorting to technique-less players of that calibre. Look at the other players we've had like that- Savage, McCammon- it very rarely works. I'd much rather be doing what the other top teams in this league are doing and playing with 2 skilled strikers.

I would imagine that Forster, Davies and Dickinson will be out next season, so I would also expect that at least one quality striker will be brought in to supplement Murray. I really don't see why everyone is so worried / aggressive towards Holroyd.

It isn't even Holroyd's fault we lost the game yesterday! If our midfield had pushed up and helped support Murray I reckon we would have got at least 1 goal, which would have been enough..

The ideal man joined the Southampton revelution Lee Barnard but I am sure that Poyet has another one in his sights and that he will not rely on Holdroyd as the main man yet, perhaps eventually but not just yet. I would like to look asigning Aaron McLean from Peterborugh who has apparently fallen behind Dickenson in the pecking porder.

What is disapointing is that we have so few strikers of quality that we are having a debate about a recent non league player who is trying to make the jump to league 1 status.

Perhaps Poyet is playing him in front of the tried & tested forwards that we have to see whether Holroyd is seriously in the plans for next season?

If we are looking for promotion next season then I believe that we need at least a couple of further decent strikers in addition to Murray. Forster perhaps has a part to play & if Dickinson keeps banging in the goals, then he could fill one of the two slots.

If Hart or Davies are on our books in August, then I see nothing other than another season of struggle.

He has come up from non-league and been fairly impressive in my view. With 5 Sub appearances against the likes of Norwich and Charlton we can only realistically expect the effort he has put in.

His pace off the bench is an asset and maybe with Gary Hart getting older we need that type of player. The next Gary Hart? maybe, albeit minus the goals. Let's just let him develop and give him a go next year. He will probably never be a starter, but at Championship, League 1 and 2 level, Holroyd will be able to come off the bench and use his pace to our advantage.
