Is Holroyd sh*t? Another Davies/Dickinson?

Lets face it we are useless at picking up non league talent. The list is endless.

We should be picking up decent league 2 players ie Holt, the guy from Rotherham etc.We have thrown away alot of cash on trying to unearth a gem from non league.

FFS, I've heard it all now.

If we are going to stick on a player that isn't going to produce anything I would MUCH RATHER have one who gets into positions to actually have a crack than one who runs around, but obviously isn't up to the job at this level. If the idea of having Craig Davies on the pitch disgusts you so much though, why don't we recall Dickinson? Obviously a much better player despite his many faults.

Do you go to games? If you did you would have surely recognised by now that he has not got anywhere near scoring, only had about 1 serious shot that I can remember. As say, would much rather see Dickinson or Craig Davies coming on.

To be honest I agree, he simply hasn't looked like scoring and its not as if he hasn't had the chance, I would SERIOUSLY rather have Craig Davies here missing sitter after sitter than Holroyd who runs around lots but actually hasn't produced squat in front of goal, sorry but its true. There is loads of great talent below the football league, Austin and Beckford two great examples, unfortunately we seem to have missed once again.

Harsh. Reading the Port Vale forum it dosen't look like Vale fans rate Craig Davies too highly. Its abit unfair to say he's worse than Davies. We've seen Davies miss hat fulls of chances, where as Holyroyd just hasn't had these chances. He's come on today and had scrapes to feed on. We've been playing 1 upfront. Brighton still lack an attacking midfielder which would enable more forward play 'on the floor'. At the moment we're playing with a big dependency on our wingers getting balls inton the box. These tactics clearly don't work for players like Holyroyd not to mention Forster. Its a Murray position which only he can play.
Holyroyd will get his day-Brentford tuesday night .

Holroyd is a young player who has stepped up two divisions. I think he shows a lot of promise and to slag a young forward off at this stage of his Albion career is frankly, a disgrace. You shoud be ashamed of yourselves. Give the man a chance for FFS.

There MAY be a wider issue about our scouting policy. Are we picking up the right non-league/lower league players? There might well be an issue there but don't slate a player who Poyet says is one for the future because he hasn't scored yet. How many games has he actually started? He will score goals for us but in the meantime let's give him the lad the backing he needs rather than laying into him. That is pointless.

Its not just today though, he has started and played a fair bit, and never really threatened, even against exeter (going down) he never really got near the goal. If we are going to throw on a striker that cant score, i would rather have one that at least gets into the positions than one who doesnt.

You are probably right but in our precarious position Poyet should pull him out of the firing line and use him conservatively as and when required not when we are chasing a goal to rescue a game and in so doing leave a proven goalscorer on the bench. Obviously people are going to have a pop at him out of frustation especially when like today the game was there to be won without too much effort.

Isn't he 23? Isnt going to develop that much further, if he was 19 i would be fine, but i think he isnt far off peaking.

Would that argument extend to a player like Bobby Zamora, who until very recently was being slagged off by Fulham fans has someone who " never scored" but is now being talked of ( not by me BTW ) as a possible England striker? The answer, as we both know, is no.
I do agree, of course, that Holdroyd is not a "kid" but football has many examples of players who don't reach their potential until their mid or even late 20's. It's just way to soon to judge him.

The difference with BZ is that he had proved he could goals in the FL not prolific after us, but he still managed to score the goals that helped West Ham and Fulham realised this and Paid £5m I think it was for him.

This guy is suppose to be a "one for the future" yet Austin from Swindon came from a lower standard of football and is banging them in.
Holroyd doesn't even look like scoring abit like Revell((full of running)
I don't hold much hope for this signing by Gus.
He should never be ahead of Forster and everyone knows that except Poyet.

I wonder if you or Gus will be proved right on this? Tricky.

All the time Dickinson was here you were saying he was shit. You did exactly the same thing, he played two games and you and the other retards were saying he was shit and we should get rid and that Davies was better.

This proves my point, and my point isn't that Holdroyd is any good, it's that nobody's seen enough of Holdroyd to form a proper opinion. He might turn out to be dog shit and never get a goal, but until he's had time to adjust to league football you can't really know for sure

At the moment I've seen him play some decent balls with his back to goal and I think at times he makes decent runs for a forward, but I've not seen any killer instinct like you see with Murray or Forster. That doesn't mean it will never happen, just look at Nogan.

Every time we sign a striker they need to get goals straight away or people just automatically call them shit. That is stupidity of the highest order.

two starts and a few minutes as a sub but f*** it, lets write the guy off forever.

Indeed

I'd start a thread suggesting that we f*** off the fuckwits who continually write off players at the first opportunity but I'd probably get a ban for my troubles :censored:

Is the correct answer.

How anyone can offer an 'expert' opinion on the guy is beyond me. How many minutes has he had on the pitch in an Albion shirt?
