If you think the Tories wouldn't have gone into Iraq then you're MENTAL

I am not saying they wouldn't, but they backed it on misinformation. It was an open ended question really. Difficult to say how they would have reacted. We were not in America's pocket so much in those days (when the tories were in control), were we?

Probably we were, but the "war against terror" has made it far more of an issue than it was before.

We went into Iraq the first time around with the Tories.

What utter bollox you talk:thud:

You think we are better off then ten years ago? So why can't people get on the property ladder? As someone else mentioned, rocketing council tax rises, water, gas and electricity has risen sharply, high fuel prices, car road tax.Longer waiting times for hospital ops and council homes. The price of beer and fags are bloody stupid. Not to mention us having open boarders which has driven down hgv drivers wages.
I take it you still live at home with mum?

Utter Bollocks? No, dear Algie facts. HDI up by 50% in the last 10 years. And hospital waiting times reduced. Are you incapable of following the link yourself - all it takes is clicking a mouse?

I'm afraid your post is the only bollocks here - it even includes claims the Tory party wouldn't dare make! Maybe you could try quoting some actual facts, instead what you hear down the pub, and you might be able to hold a debate.

Quick suggestion for you: If you're that broke, and you're blaming the price of fags - don't smoke. You might even avoid these hospital waiting times of yours

Oh, and live with my mum? No, I rent my own flat in London.

Are you absolutely sure of that? Is there some reference link to that?

Yorkie, yes. If you follow the link in the original post that you quoted it takes you to the figures (not a Labour website either(!)). HDI up by 50%

I saw that. It hasn't manifest itself in our life though .

Spoken like a true labour supporter

Not really if you read my post, I was stating my opinion on the taxation policies of the Tories, don't recollect saying that I am a Labour supporter.

A common misperception on NSC, is that one. People very often assume that if you're not a Tory, you must be a labour supporter and love Tony Blair.

It is of course, possible to dislike Tony Blair, and not vote Labour, but still appreciate the good things he has done, and think the Tories would be far, far worse.

Hospital waiting times are reduced because the figures are being cooked. Pure Labour spin like anything else.

Could you explain how? What exactly do you mean by being cooked?

The average waiting time for an operation in 1997 was over 100 days. In 2006 it was less than 80. Where's the cooking there?

Where ever you work and have to meet targets. Figures are juggled to make figures look good. With hospital waiting times to reduced the figures a GP or consultant dosen't refer so many people for surgery simple.

Odd as it may seem, I think the best type of leadership can be interpreted as 'being for the other party'. Labour though, appear to be the only ones ever sympathetic to what a whole country might need to do. Believe me, the conservatives - just the same as the republicans in the US - are all about themselves and their own agendas. They will lie to get richer, and they will expend other people's lives to protect their money and holdings.

If anyone here thinks that Thatcher or Major's times were better than Blair's, plain doesn't remember them. Even through rose coloured glasses, the tories were awful. And, they certainly did not govern anything with the general labour voter in mind (unless it was how they could shift his earnings into their pockets).
Nowadays, they just have the presence or speaking power to impress anyone that they have anything to offer......plus they couldn't get much past Blair because he was too smart for them.

I had to vote 'fence' for this poll though, since I lived out of the UK.
I don't think we'd be in Iraq like this if Clinton were still in office in the US. Afghanistan - maybe.

.

Thats why under the red tories the gap between rich and poor has grown even wider. As for lies I think the red tories top the lot

what is all this "uncontrolled immigration" nonsence.

Most people who come here have the right under EU law to look for work in any EU country.....like it or not that is what is happening.

If this place wasnt so good, people wouldnt come here. Its not all about..." Oh they just go staight on benefit" actually the majority do not.

But as the chap sais before, people are moving about europe all the time, brits to spain and italy etc etc.

personally I think its probably better now, but a lot depends on personal circumstances.
