Am I correct in remembering that GP has said that it is his job to make the players he has better? The lack of a deadly striker has been ongoing for many, many years - we never replaced Murray 1st time round and history is repeating itself again.
Maupay's miss from 2 yards would be easier to take were it a rare occurance; however for one reason or another it would seem that he isn't the most clinical of finishers. What added to the mix was the poor decision making in the final third - something which Lallana referred to 3ish games go, but again seems to have developed into a really bad habit, with him & Trossard in particular being pretty awful in their decision making (Trossard in particular being woeful). Izquierdo did more in 10 minutes than Leo did in the previous 80.
Our xG stats are laughable - as is the clamour to spend big on a striker (dodged a bullet on Rhiann Brewster didnt we??). Potter's job as per his words is to make the group of player he has got better - in some cases (Solly, Lamptey, Webster pre injury) this is clear. In others (Maupay standing out) this hasn't been the case

For what its worth I think that arguments on both sides are valid - I am certainly not Potter out but don't believe him to be the Messiah that some think he is. When he gets the tactics right we are an amazing team - the problem occuring when we dont, he seems slow / reluctant on occasion to make changes. It will be an interesting summer, with some movement needed

Yes. It’s a long term project, with a manager who has completely changed the style of play, has never managed at such a high level before and to a degree is still learning, with a very young squad who are also learning. Progress is being made, and being made in style. Judge Potter in a few years time.

Meanwhile Albion on the brink of securing 5th straight season for first time in their history.

These are still special times we need to remember that

Yes. I am very fed up with it. I have not posted in that we are no better than last season thread because frankly anyone who agreed with it is bloody clueless.

Yep. Brighton fans are generally pathetic.

Potter is quite possibly the best manager we have ever had, but we are not going to turn into prime Barcelona over night, as it seems some fans are expecting. It's all part of the evolution.

I don't get pissed off but in my head I find it a bit odd as I think it's obvious how well Potter is doing but I appreciate everyone views things differently. The world would be boring if everyone thought the same way etc.

I think Potter is fantastic and by a long, long way the best manager we could hope for but there will always be critics unfortunately until the results start coming regularly.

A minority though.. have to remember that.

Even during our toughest runs, as wretched as the polls were here, it was heartening to see the majority of NSC still backed the manager.

Oh no we lost a game... Who can I go on the internet and blame... ah the manager, he’ll do. How dare we lose a game away in the prem league.

Luckily most can see the bigger picture, be pissed off at the result or performance, yet not feel the need to find someone to blame. The ones that can’t do this, unfortunately, seem to shout loudest.

The club is bigger than any one manager and any one player. That's a simple fact and it's only misunderstood by an unfortunate cabal of foreign weirdos polluting the Albion's social media to the annoyance and disappointment of a loyal, long serving fanbase. You have the homophobic Iranian weirdos calling Potter racist every time he doesn't pick Ali J. You have the hilarious Tau fanbois from SA who are every so lovely and funny until their man doesn't make the bench. And we have a oddball from the freezing arse-end of nowhere, sat in a pile of pizza boxes and joint ends, annoying people who've supported the club for longer than he's been breathing because he thinks we should be GRATEFUL for having Potter, rather than us being the team who gave him a chance in the Premier League after 8 seasons with some Swedish farmers and leading Swansea to the dizzy heights of 10th in the Championship.

But the person who hires and fires those managers and players knows who and what he wants and those personnel will only change when he chooses. Given that, "Potter Out" is a silly position. "Potter can do better" is a much more realistic one, and where I am.

Is that enough out of the beard for you, you salty oddball?

Mate.

Really?

???

I appreciate you moderators may have to do a lot of deleting of posts (and poster) the rest of us don't see, but . . . . .

I think you're falling into the trap we all fall into from time to time - backfilling the landscape through which a pathway must have lead you to where you are now, and populating it with plausible (but imaginary) hazards.

Spend 5 minutes on BHAFC Facebook or Insta accounts when the team is announced and Ali J isn't in it or Tau isn't in it, or when we update the logo or background to anything rainbow-ish and you'll see exactly what I mean (but not next week where we're off it). Swansman is just another variety of it, trying to impose his sweet Swedish folk tale on a club with 120 years of history.

The art of debate really is dying on its arse as once again (like the politics threads) there are a number of posters desperate to push the arguments to the extremes of each other.

You have to be either be unconditionally Potter in or you are a dinosaur who wants Big Sam and Dyche in charge and are not happy we are not ‘Barcelona’. ****ing hell the hyperbole is tiring

Meanwhile in the real world I would guess most sensible fans can see the good work on and off the field, understand this season has been a bit of a strange one but have some concerns about our home form and inability to turn domination into points.

Whilst it is hard for some to understand you can be both supportive of the direction of the club and manager but debate areas you feel we need to strengthen and improve on.

True.

Though it doesn't seem that way on NSC sometimes! :lolol:

Vocal minority and silent majority I guess.

It appears to me that Bloom, Barber, Ashworth et al. are playing the long game and trying to slowly build something sustainable.

This is exactly what those who use the points tally to argue that we have not improved, simply do not seem to understand. Hence the erratic emotions of these people to every win/loss.

Come on people we were half an hour from relegation from the league, our home ground sold from under us and no idea of the way forward. 20 years later we were promoted to arguably the hardest fought league in football, complete with a state of the art stadium and owned by a local fan who has a forward looking club focused agenda. We are doing brilliantly.

Bit of a strawman. Literally no one here who backs the manager believes he is infallible and can do no wrong. He’s a young manager learning his trade at elite level, of course there are things to improve.

I'd be more pissed off if our owner was as fickle as a small minority of our fans. Thankfully Potter is going nowhere until a bigger club swoops in and he himself decides it's time to leave. But thanks to terrible results against the likes of West Brom, Palace and Sheffield United, that won't be happening this summer.

Every cloud.

Clearly you should sack your manager when your centre forward blazes over an open goal from 2 yards. Clearly the coaching is inept and should be punished accordingly...

Or, alternatively you back your manager and provide him with the tools required to do the job - failing that I guarantee someone else will...!

I’m not in or out. Just saying what I think. I’m sorry if that upsets you.

Exactly, and 100% about any Potter suitors cooling their interest, the same when one of our marketable talents has an off game, it’s all good.

I don't think there is one Premier League side outside of the bottom 3 that would start Maupay if they had him. I think he would be second choice behind Pereira at West Brom and possibly behind McGoldrick at the Blades.

This is our top striker we're talking about. And I don't think he would have started too many if we'd have signed Darwin Nunez.

It would be folly to sack Potter if he never had a reliable striker during his tenure. That said, he has no excuses this summer, and if we start next season this this crop of strikers then God help him.

Our owner who sacked a manager after taking us to promotion and keeping us in the division twice? Who has since set a clear target of becoming an established top 10 side (not just a top 10 side, but an established one, and the first thing you need to do that is finish there once)?

While I don't expect GPot to be removed because he certainly has the support of Barber, I imagine Bloom is privately pretty pissed off that we've spent the season knocking about in the same place as the previous 3.

Don't forget also - Bloom sacked Slade after he'd kept us up and while we were outside the relegation zone, and also binned off Poyet under a cloud after our best ever finish in the Championship.

The idea that GPot's job is 100% safe because we have a long term vision and because Tony Bloom didn't accept Hyppia's resignation seems an odd one to me.

I am a massive Potter fan but we cannot side step or make excuses if we get caught and go down. The buck stops with the manager. This could be just a bad weekend or it could be the start of a disastrous end of season. I am worried

Agree with this. I genuinely thought, and hoped, this last match would be a springboard to a much better League position finish than it now seems likely.
Again, hoping we stay above relegation zone one way or another.
