Brighton factually.....
Yep, you're wrong. There's been a St George's Day parade/food festival/free music in London for the past six years. Oh, and I wonder who the mayor was at the time of its inception?

thats me told off then, sorry.....out of intrest where is it held trafalgar square ? or somewhere more grand ?

No, it's nothing to do with acts of birth or being taught anything.

I thought you said it was because you were better educated? But now its inherent?

Seems to me you are not half as smart as you think Bromide.

I'm not being silly! The union flag might indeed by shorthand for 'England' in other parts of the world, I can't help their ignorance, but I would expect people in this country to know about their flag and what it represents - surely that's one of the things you right-wingers bang on about that immigrants don't know anything about this country or its history?

And as for people who take union flags to England games for 'other reasons' - well words fail me. What 'other reasons'? Perhaps 'pea-brained twats' was being a little kind ...

PS - Good binfest!

Chicken Run - No, it's nothing to do with acts of birth or being taught anything. We're not patronising, just intelligent. Oh and it's Lefties, not Leftie's. which is a singular possessive. :lolol:

If people really wanted to make something out of St George's Day then they would. I'm all for it - but it's not enough for people to just grumble that it doesn't happen. It won't if you won't make it happen.

It's a bit like having a rant when stuck in a traffic jam - don't complain about the traffic, you are the traffic. In this case, don't complain about the apathy, you are the apathy.

(this is not a pop at either of the two previous posters)

I saw some photos in the Argus from some do at one of the big Brighton hotels and it was hideous. Every photo consisted of overweight middle-aged men in high street suits with a red rose in the lapel brandishing a lager.

Until the typical St George supporter loses some weight, gets rid of his ugly genes and gets himself some decent apparel I am against it.

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway,

just want to drag us back to the cross of St Patrick discussion, innocently started by Lord Bracknell a few hours ago.

I just did a quick survey of the 8 other people in my office, aged between 29 - 50, all intelligent and educated - only ONE of them knew what flag it was.

Come up here and see them celebrate St Patricks day. Then you will see what ugly really means:D

Then there not as educated and intelligent as you thought they were then.

By the sound of it the English flag will go up on St George's Day, so what exactly is the harm in it?

I think this should be controlled as well. I'd certainly ban football shirts being worn on holiday.

Hmmm, I thought the whole point of this thread was Chicken Run's doubts over whether the city council would fly the St George's flag on St George's Day?

They do, they always have, and I'm sure they will this year. So it's not really a debate, is it?

Don't bother. The usual supsects will peddle out this kind of crap every f***ing year. I too, like another poster on thisthread, have been reading NSC a long time and every year this day comes round you get the same kind of crap.

Couldn't give a f*** about St Paddy's day myself. Really could not. Doesn't even register on my radar,

But given the choice of 'celebrating' St George's day with some of the people who CLAIM to want to or getting pissed up with a bunch of 'plastic paddys', I'll take the latter every time.

Are n't Saints days for papists and foreigners?

I'm quite happy with May Day and Bonfire Night.

hahaha!

Very good, and without missing the joke, a lot more traditionally Sussex. Importing traditions, whether school proms or a free hat with every four pints of Guinness in the Fiddlers Elbow, not very cool.

Part of the contradiction of being British, the ability to hijack other peoples cultures while moaning about our own is one of our greatest strengths and weaknesses.
