Why should Licence payers money be spent on reporting on a foreign team when the time and money could be far better spent reporting on the home nations?

The Irish team is treated the same as the home nations, it is not part of the UK and should be treated as such

Are you saying the other home nations do not have a lot of time and money being reported on, because yesterday the BBC showed the Northern Ireland match live. The main reason why there was a report on the Republic was that it kicked off at the same time as the NI game. If England, Scotland and Wales had all had competitive matches at 3pm yesterday then Eire would have hardly got a mention.

This thread seems more like an anti Ireland one masked into a why should my money be spent on their football blah blah blah

When will we hear you complain about the rest of the rubbish your money gets spent on by the BBC?

Why during the Olympics did we have to watch other nations athletes compete, why the f*** didn't the BBC blur them out the picture

What a load of old bollocks. It's a perfectly valid point and one that I totally agree with. The BBC is a BRITISH channel and the Irish are not British. The fact that there are loads of Irish in Britain is neither here nor there, nor is the fact that their players by and large play in England. They still don't represent any of the home nations.

In answering half time pie's original question, I think the only reason the Irish should get so much coverage is because one of the consituent parts of the United Kingdom is made up of 33% Irish Nationals. But I still can't understand why they don't just consign the focus on the Irish Republic football team to BBC Ulster, much as they do with the Gaelic sports or Eircom League.

But where will you draw the line huh? Should i complain that the BBC showed the Rangers v Celtic game? I mean come on i'm not a Scot and don't care for the SPL.

This is not an anti Irish thread and I am not suggesting that we only report on the home nations and 'blur everyone else out'! I am simply pointing out that in the UK we tend top have some misplaced affinity for the Irish national team when (as has already been pointed out earlyer in this thread) the Irish support two teams - Ireland and anyone who plays against England!

I love my football and I love the olympics (the more sport on the TV the better) and I am not some biggoted Nationalist. And if you want me to moan about the other rubbish that the BBC use my Licence payers money then you had better fetch your reading glasses and have a couple of hours to spare!

Simple fact the Irish team get more time and money spent on them by the BBC than any other foreign country, I am suggesting that we spend more of this time and money on reporting on other nations or our own home nations - what is anti Irish about that?!

The fact you are saying every Irish person is anti English is anti Irish enough for me!

I disagree with you MYOB that RTE show most England games. They certainly did during the world cup but they showed virtually all the games anyway. Unless you have sky over here it is virtually impossible to get sporting news on anything other than Irish sport or Irish people unless it is a major sporting event such as the Olympics/WC etc. More often than not you are not even told who has won an event, just where the irish person was placed.

They do show the premiership but that is because there is such a big interest in it here.

I do find RTE is very insular but I don't necessary think that reflects the Irish in general.

Thats not what is said was it?! I said that the Irish support two teams Ireland and any team that plays England that does not constitute to "everyone Irish is Anti-English' thats like saying people in Brighton hate Londoners because Brighton and Crystal Place have a football rivalry!

As usual as someone who in English i am unable to make simple comments that involve the Irish, Scottish and Welsh (Or any other country for that matter) without being labelled as some sort of Fascist!

Well i am not a fascist infact nothing could be further from the truth. And twisting my words will not turn me into one!

Shut it you FASCIST! :jester:

Dare I ask what your masters was in, the wonder and glory of the UK Indepedence Party ??? :dunce:

Joking aside, old chap, you should be a bright enough to be able to realise that your comments are an attack on those Britishers with Fenian blood, like a fair few of us on here.

There are millions of people with Irish connections paying our licence fee to the BBC, and we want our money's worth too. There aren't millions of recent French decendants in Britain, so that parallel is pretty lame.

Stop it with your very narrow definitions of what British is. It makes those of us from immigrant stock very nervous.

To develop this argument further, I think our cricket programmes should give a bit of coverage to the Indian sub-continent teams, given the number of British Asian lads who support them.

Not the real one
Most Paddys are great until you open your mouth and have an English accent. I should know I go out with one. No really, most I find fine until you mention England in anyway shape or form and then the same old biggoted crap comes out their mouths! Infact if you listen really closely to an Irish person rant on at you about how fantastic Ireland is and how Evil England is, I can swear it just sounds like their saying " Roy Keane, Roy Keane" over and over.

Captain, as an owner of your debut album, I am concerned that it contains a track called 'Croydon' which contains the following lyrics

"I attended Stanley Tech
in South Norwood Hill
I think it was, oh yeah
where the bronze bust was nicked
let me think, it must've been in my third year
lying in wait outside Virgo for Bayliss
and the Lady Edredge Manor School
I worked at the Fairfield Halls
cleaning toilets, but I understood some day
I'd be back in my own right
giving concerts in my own peculiar way
I kept my rabbit back at home
and I cleaned it every other day
(other day, other day, other day)
and now the time has come to say
farewell Tup with your sardines
and the TV set that I bought
and now the time has come to say
farewell Mom to your baked beans
and the proper Dons I never knew

I'll be in Los Angeles
where the famous people never quite get old
yeah, in Los Angeles
where they're all to rich to even feel the cold
but I'll still be dreaming of you Croydon
especially in the cold and rain
(cold and rain, cold and rain, cold and rain)
and now the time has come to say
I'll be leaving Croydon way
to the lovely town I once knew
and now the time has come to say
I'll be back another day
saying sunnily , what a day

Whilst this is without doubt one of the worst songs of all time, I accuse you of being a Palace fan as you clearly love Croydon so much, so hoppit!
