We played Oxford away when Brian Horton was manager of Oxford and he asked me about our defence, whilst we were having breakfast at the Oxford Moat House hotel. I told him we had 2 full backs one couldnt run and the other couldnt tackle. Our full backs were Chapman and Crumplin in that match a winger Paul Simpson got 3 goals and we lost, I think it was either 5 - 0 or possibly 5 - 1.

I thought he took a while to find his feet as he hadn't been playing much football at all and got progressively better. I can't remember him being standing out as being particularly average in the second half of the season. I would challenge you to find a better left back who is relatively young, has a great deal of experience and is available.

I would agree with you on the El-Abd point. He gets appalling treatment from some of the fans. I think some precious souls have found it hard to forgive him after his outburst and many don't appreciate what he brings to the table. We looked sheepish after his injury and end of season.

You are entitled to your opinion of El-Abd, and he HAS had a (very) few good games, but he has also cost us far too many goals with his frequent mistakes... he is cover for a number of positions, but his lack of talent is blindingly obvious... and this is not me being prescious about his pathgetic outburst, BTW...

Back to the main topic, I really hope we sign Richards... we need a left-back after stupidly releasing 3 of them...

Why aren't we interested in Harding.

He's an international after all...........;)

Harding was a much better player than most on here give him credit for... he would be a great addition to the squad unless, of course, he has gone backwards since he left us...

Under the New Management we must surely now be allowed to look at players from clubs other than Ipswich.

Also be interesting to know when Mickey  will complete his review of the 10 players released.

But expect players with a Coventry or Colchester connection

I suspect most people don't want Harding back as he tried to shaft us by not signing a contract and leaving. However, the fact that we got a fee that was 10 times his worth was our good fortune and Leed's loss (two good outcomes in fact!). My own view of him was that he was overrated and only got U21 caps because a better player was injured but I can't recall who that was. Richards would be a better proposition.

Well I certainly hope we get Richards on a permanent deal. Think all would agree he is just what we need and had an excellent seaon with us. And agree with others views..he does like to push up at times.

Fingers crossed eh !

I would be very happy to have Richards back, because when he first came here. You could quite obviously see he wasn't match fit. But when he settled into the side, aswell as many games under his belt. He was solid, and was decent at left back.

I'd take either of them at the drop of a hat

Player Set to Depart?

Town could be about to make their first player sale of the summer, according to reports this lunchtime. The Blues are said to be close to sealing a deal which would see a player leave the club.

The identity of the man involved remains a mystery at present, although it could well be one of the five players transfer-listed at the end of the season. Gary Roberts, Gavin Williams, Billy Clarke, Dan Harding and Matt Richards were all made available by boss Jim Magilton.

Roberts was interesting former club Accrington Stanley, but the League Two club have said the midfielder’s personal terms would be beyond them, while Matt Richards (pictured) is believed to be a target of Brighton, the side with whom he spent last season on loan

That Billy Clarke is decent isnt he?

At least we know what we are getting with Richards... right now, I just want a left-back... for me, either would be good...
