Not convinced Adams will bother to chase down any of Deano's ex players but I'd be very happy to see Richards back here.

You don't rate him?

I would definitely want us to sign him. He took a little while to settle in, but looked almost the complete package at times and offered a threat going forward. He was at the start of a fair few moves that we scored from.

not particularly it has to be said , yes agreed there are time he has looked fantastic and put in some goal stopping blocks and some nice counter attacking play

BUT

more often then not he looks scared , slow and second rate - can't really head , beaten quite easily by moves or fast players , can't tackle that well and knocks it out of play when he has got more then enough options around him

if it was any other player you guys would be slating him , in fact when El-Abd was doing the above you guys were slating him , yet Richards is "fantastic" ?

I thought he took a while to find his feet as he hadn't been playing much football at all and got progressively better. I can't remember him being standing out as being particularly average in the second half of the season. I would challenge you to find a better left back who is relatively young, has a great deal of experience and is available.

I would agree with you on the El-Abd point. He gets appalling treatment from some of the fans. I think some precious souls have found it hard to forgive him after his outburst and many don't appreciate what he brings to the table. We looked sheepish after his injury and end of season.

Are you sure you're not just remembering our previous left-back there?

Richards, to me, is solid defensively, and worth an extra man in midfield when we're on the ball because he's so quick to get forward. I think he's GREAT, and I hope we sign him.

sadly not , in fact it just goes to show how well Kerry played when he was called back!

should just point out i have nothing against the bloke , he just doesn't seem reliable enough for defence for me - personally i would like to see him play some sort've defensive midfield role as that would probably suit him game more but as our left back solution he just doesn't do it for me!!

but i mean we have no other reasonable options now have we?

Agree, after a shaky start he looked like a good, strong, solid defender who liked to get forward, just the sort of player Micky Adams likes. I say sign him up. I don't think we'll get much better than him now than Lockwood has signed for Colchester ( a good signing I think - they'll be strong next season) Surely we're going to sign a left back, afterall we currently don't have ANY at the club. So if not Richards, then who?

Player Set to Depart?

Town could be about to make their first player sale of the summer, according to reports this lunchtime. The Blues are said to be close to sealing a deal which would see a player leave the club.

The identity of the man involved remains a mystery at present, although it could well be one of the five players transfer-listed at the end of the season. Gary Roberts, Gavin Williams, Billy Clarke, Dan Harding and Matt Richards were all made available by boss Jim Magilton.

Roberts was interesting former club Accrington Stanley, but the League Two club have said the midfielder’s personal terms would be beyond them, while Matt Richards (pictured) is believed to be a target of Brighton, the side with whom he spent last season on loan

Are you on a wind-up?

I'm trying to figure out if you're on a wind-up or not...with the exception of the few games where he was clearly not match fit when he first signed for us, he was quality...By far the best left back we'd had down here since Chapman!

That is not a very good recomendation being better than Chapman.

We played Oxford away when Brian Horton was manager of Oxford and he asked me about our defence, whilst we were having breakfast at the Oxford Moat House hotel. I told him we had 2 full backs one couldnt run and the other couldnt tackle. Our full backs were Chapman and Crumplin in that match a winger Paul Simpson got 3 goals and we lost, I think it was either 5 - 0 or possibly 5 - 1.

I think that Chapman was very good as a promising youngster but didnt get any better with age and was never as good as Kerry Mayo as a younger man.

As regards Richards I thought that he was a good defender who was also very comfortable on the ball and getting forward so would love to see him sign for us.

Have to agree with you he started really well but was quite average and slow by the time he left. I seem to recall he was well overweight for quite a lot of his career here, but may be wrong. He has attained legend status without ever being that good imo
