Am off to the US next month. My son wants an IPOD and I wondered if there was any reason why I should not take advantage of the good exchange rate and buy one out there?

Would I face any problems with compatability?

Lastly any recommendations for a an Ipod costing around £100?

No clever gizmo type stuf as i will not understand it.

Thanks

I bought mine in NY for $249 + $20 tax, and it save me £80.

I'm not sure about the guarantee Wozza - I think Apple honour it globally...

I bought my 80gig Video iPod through Ebay and it was shipped over. Very satisfied, especially as it cost £170 as opposed to what, £300 or so, here?

I never had a problem with my previous Nano, I still have it, it works fine.

Well, you won't have a guarantee....

Not so, my wife bought me one in Las Vegas that went wrong within a month, Apple collected from my house via UPS and sent a new one within 3 days. She also paid an additional amount in the USA to extend the warranty to 3 years worldwide.

Go for it Perry:thumbsup:

This is all good news.

Any recommendations for a fairly basic but robust model? I doubt if my lad will want a huge amount of storage space?

Oh yes he will don't try and make that lame excuse for your tightness

About six months ago they made the guarantee global. Being made buy a Macbook for a relative when in the states, have told him it'll be unpackaged, running a few random apps, etc to get it through custom as not new :jester:

I was off by, erm, 6 months:

Valentines Day 2006 they brought it in.

Ipods were covered before that date. Quote from your link

Previously available only for iPods and portable computers, Apple told service providers on Sunday that it will now provide global service coverage for all Apple desktop computers, servers, and displays that are under warranty

and can I focus attention on which model to look at please?

Look at it like my misses would, the more you spend the more you save :)

I would get at least a video model ...
