I think that we have a very decent squad and some very good players. We all know we could do with a striker to bang in 15 goals a season but so do many other teams. A new keeper would help or maybe give Sanchez a run in the team, if he is number 2 (although he never makes bench, which is strange). I know it's an unpopular view but for all the pass the ball around (although last night we mainly just thumped the ball up the park in the second half) the poor results and especially the abject home form is down to the management team. For all Potter may be doing right he has turned Dunk into a player that was on the verge of the England squad to a shadow of the player he was. He seems to play Ryan whatever, accept in one game, in which he uses his perceived (at the time) 3rd choice, who does well and then hasn't made the squad again. No idea why Alzate doesn't get any game time. He plays one of the highest rated young central defenders in midfield and continues with the error prone Webster in central defence.

To me, it's not necessary new players we need, we need the current players to get their confidence back and it doesn't seem that Potter can inspire this.

You can all make as many excuses for Potter as you like but he wanted Maupay, we signed him. He wanted Welbeck, we signed him. He has the talent but what he doesn't have is a system which gets the most out of them. He has a system to shoehorn his favourite defenders into the team but to hell with everyone else. If he really wanted us to score more goals he'd drop a defender or two and play a system which would allow our expensive attacking players to be more creative, score more goals and win more games.

This squad with a better manager would be doing a LOT better. Argue about it amongst yourselves if you want but it's true. He's underperforming and his miserable press conferences are not hiding it. More and more people are starting to notice.

You mean like playing three forward against Liverpool and getting a very favourable result?

We would have beaten the league champions if Maupay scored his penalty and Connolly hadn’t missed a one on one. That is nothing to do with Potter.

Put Danny Ings / Callum Wilson in our side and that's us safe from relegation for another season.

It really is as simple as that. If money is tight then sell players where you have cover to free up cash.

All the evidence sadly points towards the Albion being slowly but surely priced out of the EPL. Which is tremendous news for those who much prefer the cut n thrust of the Championship. Tho they need to ask themselves why the Championship is so exciting. Simply answer is that everybody's busting a gut to reach the hallowed ground of the EPL. We're already there. Why not pay the going rate to stay there and possibly flourish? And spare me the shit about it being easy to spend other people's money. This is the game, these are the chips required to stay in the game

Callum Wilson is consistently over rated on NSC. Danny Ings isn’t coming here. Let’s be patient with the front line. Welbeck/Maupay as a front two has considerable potential. Perhaps someone needs to tell Dunk and Webster to stay away from the opposition penalty area as the chances are falling to them and are always squandered.

Fair enough. But we've also failed to beat (or even try to beat) the rubbish Burnley and West Brom teams who came to the Amex. That's two of the worst teams in the league and we beat neither of them. Luckily, we're marginally less pathetic away from home so going to Fulham and Leicester is more likely to suit us.

Haven't read the whole thread but presumably someone has pointed out that we've scored 4 more goals than Wolves in tenth? Our GF column is comparably positive towards the rest of the bottom half of the table.

Clearly scoring more goals would be a good thing, but I'm not convinced it's the main issue. If we stopped conceding goals from set pieces we'd be a different side altogether. It's almost unforgiveable to have this problem in the Premier League, you can practice these scenarios over and over again.

I think we already have the players but are not using them to their best ability.

From Southampton's first corner of the game they tried to hit Vestergaard at the far post. In the flesh he is a giant. We put Veltman on him each time. Veltman is 1.82m, Vestergard is 1.99m. Dunk is 1.92m, Webster 1.9m. It came as no surprise to me Vestergaard scored from a corner. They made no disguise of what they wanted to do at corners, and we put our smallest CB on him. It just seemed naive.

It's an improvement on Maupay marking Maguire in the last minute at least...

Veltman was in the zone man. The rest where zoned out. Ryans dive looked like he was smashed blocked and totally zoned out.

I know who we should sign - Odsonne Eduard from Celtic. Near the end of his contract and an .outstanding finisher. He has scored goals in Europa and Champions league who we know he can do it outside Scotland. I have seen him play a lot and he would be perfect for us and affordable.

Wouldn't it be great if our own giant BDB headed the ball like that rather than duck out of them

Investment is nice but its a young team and it will get better with or without investment.

I’m with you.

However I worry if our fan base will stick with this if we can’t get sustained results. Genuinely think some fans don’t understand the bigger picture and only think short term.

Might still have worked if Veltman was anywhere near him when he scored.

A little naive maybe? Were we to get relegated how many of our "young team" would stay? Lamptey & Biss would be gone in a heartbeat. Possibly Alzate, Swiss Andy & MacAllister too. Would the two signings that we loaned back still want to come if we were no longer a PL club?

Could we afford to pay the wages of the higher earners in the Championship?

IMO keeping this young team together is dependent on us retaining our place in the PL.
