Should do Trossard’s confidence a world of good.
But it seems he only smiles when at home playing with his Lego. Do wonder why he always looks like he is really not enjoying his football. Odd (but a terrific player, hope we keep him).

I don't think it's fair to say it was a rewriting of history at all, I just didn't put his entire career backstory into the post. I was just explaining that he wasn't an FAI man promoted from within like Southgate in England, but got the Ireland roles of the back of Dundalk. He was talked about as one of the top young Irish managers at the time - I'll be honest I thought he was the right man for the job, and there were comparisons made with Kerr in his knowledge of the game at all levels (who I still maintain got the best football out of the Irish squad in my lifetime).
I think you're being a bit disingenuous to list all of those players to suggest we have a lot of PL calibre in the squad. Matt Doherty probably looks to have a decent premier league career ahead of him. Coleman is a top quality PL player, but is 32 now. Egan, O'Shea, Stevens, Clark and Robinson are all playing for teams that are getting relegated from the PL in two months time, and I can't see any of them getting snapped up by top level teams when they do. Hendrick (also most likely getting relegated) and Brady barely play for their bottom-half PL teams, and even though they're 29 there seems to be this acceptance that their international careers are on the wane (in Hendrick's case for good reason, I'd like to see more of Brady) - if either moved clubs now it would be down a division without a doubt.
Agree there's some promise, certainly with Kelleher and Bazunu. We all know what Connolly may yet become, maybe Parrott as well. Things change quickly in international football, who knows who might come through at an LOI or English club in the next 2-4 years, not necessarily someone currently on the radar. I'm personally unsold on Jason Knight - I don't think he contributed a lot last night, any more than Molumby against Serbia (who was also ineffective). I've sat down to watch Derby a few times because of him this year and not quite seen what everyone is talking about - maybe it's just my bad luck on the games I've seen. I know Wayne Rooney says he's great but I don't think he's the next Alex Ferguson.
Totally agree on your assessment of team selection and tactics last night though. I'm not 100% behind Kenny by any means, but bringing in someone like Trappatoni or McCarthy to organise the defence and make the results more respectable - does this really resolve the issue get everyone's heads back up? It had stopped working for Mick by the end. It feels like we might be in for a bit of a miserable immediate future either way.
