Pretty unlikely anyone will come in and be capable of playing to De Zerbi’s instructions without at least a few training sessions……..more likely to see other U21s helping out for a bit even if we do sign the FB/winger unicorns
Or recalls for Moran and / or Sarmiento?

The loss of pretty much every natural wide player we have, in both defence and attack, is just ridiculous.
I guess Pedro will be our winger for the next month, along with FB. Both not at their best in those roles but what can we do

After the press conference, and the dearth of fit wide players, a back three with wing backs might be an option:

--------------- Steele/Bart -----------------
----- Van Hecke ----- Dunk ----- Igor -----
Hinshelwood -- Gross -- Gilmour -- Moder
-------- Buonanotte ---- Joao Pedro -------
---------------- Welbeck --------------------

With Milner, Lallana, Baleba, Dahoud and Fergie to come off the bench if needed

Maybe Lamptey and Igor back next week ?
Their replacements have played so well, I think they can both expect bench and the occasional rotation in and cup game. Incredibly this also applies to Veltman. To me it's nuts that he doesn't just walk back in. But he doesn't.

Great to have the ability to rotate and to not have to play probably injured players though

When did Lamptey last actually play? And is the current unjury spell the one that started when he was withdrawn from the match-day squad due to something that happened in the warm up?

Well he did return from injury and come back into the squad last Autumn and did, what I thought was a good job at left back for 2 or 3 games I think

Then he got injured again.

I like him, but his injury record is preposterous. He's contracted, I think, until the end of next season, so it will be interesting to see what happens there. If he doesn't play that much football, there has to be a possibility we just don't offer him a new deal. At the moment he doesn't have loads of value to protect.

He started against Forest but went off injured after 35 mins. That was his first appearance in the squad for 7 games, his last game before that was away to Marseille where he played the full 90 mins.

I'm not sure which game he was withdrawn from after the warm up though?

Its no good relying on Lamptey, as history shows us he'll last 4 or 5 bit-part performances before the inevitable happens again. :(

He scored a good goal on a club training video in Dubai this week.

But yes that's not the same as being able to rely on him.

What a shame about Lamptey, would be class if he could stay fit.

Ultimately looks like one Chelsea got right.

Chelsea wanted to keep Tariq, they’d offered him a new deal but he had rejected it because he didn’t see a path to first team football. He was on the verge of signing a pre contract agreement with a French side that meant he’d leave in the summer for nothing so we jumped in and Chelsea had no real option but to sell to us.
