Interesting the BBC chose not to use his quotes making the same point I made yesterday;

Especially those British construction / civil engineering organisations involved in stadium builds and seemingly turned a blind eye.

Deflection tactics.

FIFA corruption is what awarded Qatar the World Cup, we all know that, it’s truly astonishing when you actually think about it that it was ever allowed to happen and everyone inside Fifa just let it happen…. I wonder why.

Russia and Qatar the last 2 world cups

As a thought experiment, how much effort would be involved in setting up a new governing body for football? Calling it the World Football Association and all national and clubs competitions choose to swap.

Sounds like he has been got at. So much for the " Football Family " that used to get trotted out as being the ultimate goal of football.

You can have your beer though if you are on a corporate package though.

Two reports on the news today.
Armbands. All teams are to wear specific armbands as instructed by FIFA. They don't mention any 'Equality' rights.
Fan Zone. A tented camping area for fans is not ready by a long way. Fans arriving Friday found it in a mess. Shop not stocked or open, no running water, no transport, no drinking water. Nearest shop or town 1 hour away.

He can say what he wants the competition has been hugely damaged in reputation and interest by the last two brown envelope fuelled host awards.

There is widespread apathy about this tournament on the eve of it kicking off and cannot see that changing much as the tournament unfolds.
I work in a school and usually it's buzzing as much for staff and pupils. This time more a whimper. We are showing the England game in classrooms and on large screens on Monday for those that want to watch. I was only saying yesterday to a load of staff that we need to keep our resentment at the tournament out of our attitude to it with the kids. It's not their fault nor would they understand all the politics involved (I work in Primary). But the whole thing sucks, whether we are sometimes unseeing of our own failures or not as @Springal quoted. It was underhand and disgusting that the Qataris lied so much in order to be given the tournament and paid so many $$$. That's disregarding their medieval societal views, which are a whole other area for disatisfaction.

Indeed. But the English FA are culpable in a small part for what built up to this when we played a pointless friendly / exhibition match in 2009 in Doha against Brazil in an attempt to win their vote for us to host 2018. I was part of the 2000 that travelled over and went, and then turned out they didn’t even vote for us anyway!

Funnily enough it never gets talked about anymore about how easily we were ‘sold’ by our own custodians of the game.

Should have been nipped in the bud a long, long time ago

If I was the head of FIFA who’d been handed this particular shit sandwich I’d be trying to keep a low profile, make sympathetic noises and try and keep my head down while counting the hours to the end of the damned thing. But then he’s considerably richer than me so maybe that’s my problem, not his?

Merely confirms this guy is the latest bellend heading up a corrupt organisation that’s not for purpose. As if further evidence was even needed!

3000 years? He might need a history lesson. But our atrocities don’t excuse anyone else’s.

Yes, I wouldn't react with much antipathy to the speech. I need to hear the whole thing.

My source with regard to abuse of migrant workers comes from Human Rights organisations on the ground. Qatar is lying. It's been a dreadful situation. The fact that Infantino talks of 'since 2016' makes it worse. What about 2010 ?

The other points Infantino makes are worthy of consideration though. Western companies have been heavily involved here.

I don't need the BBC to tell me how to think.
