Moeen or Simster?

Moeen, get to fifty then it's time to take a deep breath and build another 50, both our set batsmen gone now so the day has turned right around

So, after 35 tests, I'm now sure Moeen Ali isn't good enough to make this side as either batsman or bowler.

If Rashid continues to outbowl him in this series, I'd like to see England try and find a proper batsman at number 5, Stokes 6, Bairstow 7, Woakes 8, Rashid 9 for series where only one spinner is needed.

Rashid is capable of batting far better in tests than we've seen so far. He has 10 first class hundreds to his name, more than competent enough for a Test Match Number 9.

I agree (but I know others won't). Barring average of 33 in tests. Bowling average of 39. Cook now appears to turn to Rashid more than Ali.

KP in 2012. He would have would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling text messages.

I like Ali as a player a lot but he's had a lot of time now to learn on the job and he hasn't really got any better or been successful in defining his role. I'd like to see him bat 5 and be a more than competent occasional(ish) 2nd spinning option because I don't think he's ever going to be dangerous or stingy enough to be a top class front line spinner, I think we are (with the best of intentions) wasting our time trying to make him one. At the moment his batting isn't disciplined enough to be a test match number 5.

Blimey, the only England batsman I can remember making 300 was Graham Gooch against India.

Presume it was a Player rather than a Gentleman back in the 1920's or 30's? :p
