Religion wasn't the cause of the Irish conflict.

Invading their lands, killing their people and taking away their lands and right to self determination was what caused that conflict.

The vast majority of conflicts are started over lines on maps, politics and resources.

Ultimately was it not Catholics vs Protestants?

But let’s not fall out over it, and let’s hope Trump doesn’t get extra votes on the back of the TV pictures coming out of Austria?

You could extend that premise to football, especially in the 70s and 80s. No football = no giving someone a good kicking because they support another team.

Not all football fans were hooligans. Did we ban football because of a few idiots? Would you have supported the move if we had?

But what about........

See posts 47 and 50, did you stop reading the thread after the post of mine you replied to?

Watch last night’s Who do you think you are, for the reason why there was so much trouble in Northern Ireland.
Land stolen by the English & Scots, with the Irish being starved.

I’ve got a little bit of a buzz which I hope to maintain through the election tomorrow but I am totally confused by posters ITT that I thought were reasonable. If I’m being an ass and I’m totally wrong I will try to apologize after hiding during the saddest election I hope to ever live through in my country, but your video makes me want to link what I think is even better...

Correct. The IRA didn’t even try and pass it off as religion. Just a fight against their oppressors.

And similarly non-religious people saving lives and doing good work are threatened by religious fanatics.

Problem is religious people hate having their belief questioned and lets face you can't all be right, however those of us who believe none of it exists at all are always made out to be the intolerant ones. If our belief of non-belief offends it's you that has the problem.

Man kills man, religion just gives an extra reason to do so.

But so does any activity that gives an identity which maybe used to allocate resources - tribe, skin colour, politics , nationality, football. A lot of people practise religion without having to kill over it.

Totally agree but I was responding to a previous post that related to doing good things under the banner of religion. My point was and remains, that many non-religious people also do good without the need to follow a god but can have their lives dictated by what I consider fantasy.

As I stated religion gives those so inclined another reason to kill.

I don't have an issue with people wishing to follow religion just don't allow it to interfere with me. A good friend of mine dating back many years is the Dean of Bristol and he knows he is better off making me a cup of tea or having a beer together than praying for me.

I guess i was trying to reinforce the point you were making that it's man that kills not religion and if we had no religion then they would find something other to identify with and wreak their madness

My cousin In Vienna has two routes home, had he taken the other one he would have walked straight into the shooter.
