Saw Inception last night. Was good but not great. Definitely not as complex as some are making out. Once it's explained early on how it works, the rest is straight forward. Going 4 layers deep was pretty easy to understand as each layer was so different.

Bit disappointed after the hype though.

Just got back from watching this to find McS79th has summed it up perfectly.
Its not worth the hype and a t least half an hour too long.

Sounds a load of turd. Can't be bothered with it. I did hire 500 days of Summer over the weekend and that was superb though 8.5.

I saw it at the iMax in London last week, absolutely stunning. I thought it was based around a fundementaly flawed concept, but it was a superb film. Well made, well cast and well worth seeing.

It is quite difficult to watch, though. But not really that hard to follow.

Awful ending though, absolutely typical and predictable. Poor ending.

I watched it 3 times and have upgraded my rating. Infact it is now in my top 20 films of all time. Is that ok with you ?.

I loved the ending. It felt to me like Nolan knew it was predictable and so played with it.

Spoilers below, click and drag to highlight. (Remember to delete if you quote this message or else it will show up)

The way Leo started his totem spinning, and you think "ah, here we go...", then he gets his attention drawn by his children and you start to think, "huh, maybe not", then you see the kids in similar clothes, and similar positions and think "ah, this is it, this is where we find it's still a dream", then the kids turn around and so you start to think "maybe not", then it pulls away and we see the totem spinning and think "ah-ha. This is it, this time. Here we go it's a dream all along" and then it starts to sound a if it is losing momentum and is about to fall and then it cuts to black. I'm convinced Nolan was aware many people would be expecting the "twist" and so he toyed with it. Incidentally, there are many people out there who argue that it isn't still a dream, that it is reality.

Having seen Dark Knight, I felt that he's just more interested in the spectacle than the integrity to the story. I thought it was the "Hollywood" ending, if you see what I mean. Don't really finish the story and leave it open for a second film.

But on the other hand, it was kind of in keeping with the film. Almost from the start you're questioning what's happening, and you have to question the ending aswell. It was clever in a way, but I don't like that sort of ending.

is it all a dream or not seems a pointless question as it can be read eitherway, or a third (forth... ) obvious alternative. for me, its not all a dream otherwise its a pointless story with no purpose. or put another way, dont over analysis it.

@ US, its fine with me, but i think you could have qualified your opinion had changed. and watch Inception, its an interesting idea, with some nice touches.

Good film - but i lost the plot for a bit in the middle which was a shame. Really needs full focus.

Makes the Matrix seem straight forward.

Was quality.

I love how he leaves the endings open for discussion, exactly the same as The Prestige's ending. A split second moment that makes you go "hang on..." about the rest of the film. Great that he gets people talking about the film, rather than films where you just switch your brain off and get fed every single bit of info, with his films you actually have to analyse and interpret.

Excellent stuff, keep it coming Nolan.

I know this is really picky but do you have to use 'absolutely' as an adverb preceding an adjective so regularly?

Every now and again it's fine but using it so often when you're billing something up/criticising something makes it very annoying!

It's still in the lovefilm god's hands! Have Slumdog Millionaire to watch at some point this week.

Hopefully watching Knight and Day next week - was going to watch it today until we realised that it isn't out yet

I saw this last night;

Overall a fairly good movie, running on one basic idea. It feels overly long at just over two hours, and the ending you should see coming from a mile off.

Performances are quite decent across the board, without being anything to rave about. Will get Oscar buzz for the effects, which are on the good side (as opposed to The Day After Tomorrow/Armageddon/2012 nonsense).

The first half is deliberately stylized (well, the whole thing is very stylized - not always in a good way) - and is very confusing. Nolan does this on purpose to make the most out of what is essentially one big gimmick.

On the whole, both me and missus gave it 3* - worth seeing - but only on the big screen for the sheer spectacle and definitely not as good as the hype says. The rotten tomatoes aggregate has come right down now too to it's natural resting place.

Oh, and Michael Caine and Pete Postlethwaite have totally pointless nondescript cameos. That's all.

Think this sums up my impression perfectly.

5.8 (I mark hard!)....is still worth a nose for any that still haven't seen it.
