Perhaps if Thatchers government hadnt sold off a huge amount of our social housing stock, of which a large amount is now in the hands of private landlords, making obscene profits, we could all live in council houses. And btw I dont think Bob Crowe is a member of the Labour party, not radical enough for him.

What someone really needs to do is invent a talking device which enables two people in different places to communicate. You could call it something like, er, a tele-phone? I reckon it would catch on.

that would be a marvellous idea, but wouldnt help those that insist upon face to face power meetings, where they can be seen walking out of the other parties office to claim how they've won substantial concessions for their members. if politics were all conducted by phone i reckon we'd get an awful lot more done, but one has to be seen rather than necessarily do.

Bankrupting the country? Care to take a look at current government borrowing levels? They've gone up since Cameron came in. Triple A rating gone. Unemployment higher. I know what I'd rather have. And I know what the UK will get come 2015.

Interestingly, most commuters in London actually agree with what the tube strike is over - closure of ticket offices.

Most won't connect the two.

Probably worth reminding anyone who can't buy a ticket/charge an Oyster because the machine is broken or the one available has a queue leading out into the street.

And yes, it happens all the time. The Underground ones are quite robust but the station ones with dual Oyster facilty can be tempremental in my opinion.

That's important if you start your journey at a rail station.

When Bob Crowe was on the Jeremy Vine show, Vine started to have a go at him about his wage, so Crowe turned it round and asked Vine how much he earned, of public money for his two hour a day show. Funnily enough, Vine changed the subject pretty rapid, and I would imagine the Mail editor is on a far larger salary than Bob Crowe, and he doesnt have the face a leadership ballot either

Nice, another little personal insult

Is this what Champagne Socialists are taught from the handbook of life.

It's been a while since I did my maths O level but Labour left government with unemployment at around 8.1% and the current level is around 7.2% - how is 7.2 higher than 8.1 ?

They did bankrupt us...sold our gold reserves at the cheapest rate it has ever been...left a note..'There's no money left'..yes real funny..Triple A went because of their policies...don't know where you got your info from as regards unemployment...according to all sauces...althought that numbskull Ed Balls won't admit it...unemployment is falling faster than it has done for 30 years...the economy is the fastest rising in the whole of Europe...including Germany...and most of the world...despite this government being lumbered with the millstone of Clegg and his cronies. The trouble with Labour they never learn..Balls is talking about going back to the policies of Tax,Borrow ,and Spend
...the very policies that put us in this mess in the first place. If Socialism is so good...why is France going down the pan at an alarming rate, unemployment rising...lost their AAA, AA ratings...you are welcome to your Labour government...but one day when you get this 'Labour is for the working man' out of your mind you might wake up to the fact...they are all in it for themselves...

my experience of ticket office staff in the past few years is that the machines are marginally more communicative and certainly less sour and grumpy. didnt used to be like that, i can imagine its become a refuge for those that dont want to engage with the public. because thats whats being proposed iirc, staff not hiding in a booth but on the platform assisting.

yes, i know some are losing their job. thats the cost of progress, technology has made their job of issueing tickets redundant. is there really justification for 3 staff in the ticket office at Sudbury Town on weekady afternoon?

My experience is completely the opposite. I find if you treat them as human beings they react accordingly. If you find machines communicative perhaps your approach is failing ?

The station staff at my station are busy because the ticket machines are rubbish.

Seems to be various levels of hypocrisy going on here.

Who really gives a toss where the bloke goes on holiday? Its his money he can do what the bugger he likes with it.

As for the council house issue i think its only fair to say its quite questionable to ask if someone "needs" council housing on that salary.Surely buying the property (if that is an option) would release funds into the council coffers for more housing building and he gets to stay where he wants,or option 2 buy something local.

i suspect if it were a Tory councilor on £150000 a year who was living in a council house there would be some people on here having absolute kittens.

The problem with Bob Crowe is that he comes across to many people as a hardcore left wing firebrand along the same ilk as that ginger bloke ,Unions do great work, but the lunatics spoil it.

The irony is that at this time its not the Tories trying to diminish their power but Mr Milliband himself........labour(the tory B team) are a joke,in order for the system to work we need strong opposition ,something we no longer have.
Its now either Lib,Tory or Tory light

And therein lies the issue - all council tenancies should be on flexible tenancies to account for change of circumstances not secured tenancies.

creating unsettled transient communities and the social problems that brings. we already have the private rental sector catering for that quite well.
