What on earth us this thread about? Team CMS? I'd sooner give my backing to a Donkey on Rohypnol...it'd have a better first touch.

It's not about the touch. Or the goals. Or lack of. Or anything that counts in modern football terms. It's about his 1970's style 'work-rate' and above all that he applauds those customers who remain to the bitter 90+5 end. Doesn't make him a bad person. Quite the opposite. Wish him well, while wishing him elsewhere.

So I'm putting my summer of CMS defence into one thread.

- He'll have more poacher balls across the 6 yard box, from Buckley, KLL, Noone.
- He'll have Crofts and Vicente in close company.
- Centre halves will be pulled out of position.
- The team have now had a full season in The Championship.

- Last season he was completely detached from our defensive set up.
- Last season he was having to chase down 60 yard lumps up field from Greer.

CMS will be our top scorer, knocking on the door of 20+ goals, without taking a penalty.

I take it in the time I've taken to write this CMS has been sold to Palace.
I am also acutely aware that writing this means Mystic Stat is hammering the final nail into CMS' football coffin, sorry fella.

Hope your right, but feel this post is straight out of the heart ruling the head category!!!

You couldn't have been more correct. Watch the highlights of Ulloa and you will see the skills CMS is lacking. Yes, he hustles but it means nothing if he doesn't score as Leo did.

I don't think there has ever been an Albion striker that everyone wished he had scored hatfuls of goals more than CMS. Did anyone think it was a bad signing at the time he joined ?

I doubt it, beating bigger clubs to his signature, his scoring record at Posh and there was no expectation from fans above staying in the division.

His injury came at a bad time for his career here, he was on course to have a good season and possibly 20+ goals and that may have led to better things here but it's not to be. (a shame really)

No, nobody.

Apart from all the palace gimps. Because allegedly they told us so.

Mongs.

I havnt read any of this thread,.... but this is what I have been saying for 3 years,..... we fuuccked up big time, and the lack of goals has in the end cost us our potential Prem position, and goosed up his career whilst here,.... he will come back next year and smash some goals past us guaranteed.

It’s just one of those things in football, this transfer hasn’t worked out. What amazes me about managers is they see a player score 36 goals in one year and 99 in three seasons and then they try to play him in a different role. That absolutely baffles me.

I wish him well, I don't think there is anyone I don't wish well. I do think it's about touch and goals....he's not a youth player where we pat him on the back and ask him if he enjoyed himself. 1970's work rate? The best players look like they are doing nothing, yet they orchestrate and they achieve by seemingly stopping time. He's a professional paid to achieve objectives and he didn't achieve them, that's the deal, that was his job and that was his contract.

Shook his hand after the match and wished him all the best in the future---he politely thanked me.
He was still having photos done with fans on his way to the car park.

Yes, Peterborough's fans. They couldn't believe their luck.

I'm gutted for him he looked upset yesterday but he was willingly having photo's done etc. He is a decent guy such a shame it didn't work out.

He ran around lots and tried hard but for £3Million? I really wish Poyet had given Murray a pay rise instead, if he had, then we would be in the top flight I suspect. That's Brighton, it was the same in the 1980's.. after all why would we have wanted to sign Roy Keane or Ian Wright? We had Steve Penney and Robert Codner.

Just a little bit harsh, but nonetheless a massive disappointment after the euphoria when he signed him 4 years ago. I read the article about Barry Fry's comments and am sure that had he been played to his strengths, then more gaols would have been forthcoming. That having been said, I did find it significant that he elected to joining the Albion rather than West Ham, where he thought he might not be a regular starter. What does that tell us about his own self-belief . . .

Just checked. He scored more than I thought. What happened???? Just the injury? Can't imagine Wardy, Poskett, Binney, etc having a drought because of weird and wonderful playing formations.

I remember being very sceptical when he signed. Lots of people wetting themselves with excitement because we had beaten West Ham (since promoted) and Leicester (since promoted) to his signature. The problem I had personally was that our Championship standard team that battered all-comers the season before, had made CMS look very ordinary twice that season. Especially during that football lesson we dished out at London Road. He didn't get a sniff, despite running around lots.

There are some cracking old threads to go through what people were saying back then....'golden age for Brighton', 'clear indication Gus is here to stay'...and even 'It will make the Nigels realise they are the pauper gypsy wankers we all know them to be, gleefully taking our cast-offs as if they've got one over on us, as we much onwards and upwards to far, far better things. Pleasing.'
