Good to see thread on NSC that is not pc, about time too

I've got no problem with Pride as I don't go and I don't live in Brighton but if people are offended why should they have to piss off? That is as bigoted as homophobia or is there a subtle difference because it's not pc???

only reason i said piss off is that we live in a cosmopolitan city, its not a bigoted opinion. if you dont like living here that much then move on.

We are a cosmopolitan city, and the gay and lesbian population are part of what contributes to the diverse range of residents we have, and I think it's great that on the whole, everyone is left alone to get on with doing their own thing.

The one thing that does surprise me is that the gay community spend most of the time just blending in and asking to be accepted and left alone, and then spend one day a year bringing more attention to themselves than any other section of the community ever does.

I do agree with that.

Quite right. If I said to a gay person "you're a f***ing queer faggot, piss off" I'd be arrested. But if that gay person said to me "you're a f***ing straight normal heteresexual tosser", and I reported it to the police I'd be laughed at. That's the big difference, and what makes me angry. One rule for us and another rule for them.

Junior my son, I am in total agreement with everything you say.
I'm tired of the "right on" attitude we're supposed to show for the Rainbow flag.

The council here bend over backwards (pun intended) for the pink vote/pound; well I just wish that they'd show the same enthusiasm for the football loving, Brighton supporting public that live here, work here & put up with the gay community that have settled here.

I'm not going to use spellcheck, just back from Reading; couldn't give a flying f*** if some smart arse comes on here & calls me homophobic.
I just know that tomorrow morning when I go for my run around Preston Park, I'll see families trying to enjoy our public park; but it'll be littered with used condoms, gay porn, syringes etc...like every year. That is a fact & I'd love to see the end of Gay Pride.

Well said Smudge ,whoevever called You bnp member should be ashamed of themselves, just because you find gay porn and sullied condoms offensive doesn't make you a nazi,I to am a fairly tolerant type,I just wish they wouldn't ram it down my throat!!.
(cue lefty guardian readers correcting my spellin)

What is the point of having a gay march in a tolerant place like Brighton. Why don't these peoplle show a bit more pride and courage and display themselves in places like Swindon or Burnley or most of middle England where they all come from any way.

You answered your own question. The precise reason why why Pride takes place in Brighton and not Swindon or Burnley is because Brighton is such a tolerant city. If it took place in a lot of other places then it would probably be hijacked by bottle-throwing chavs.

Apart from being a celebration of people's sexulaity, Pride is also a celebration of what a fantastically cosmopoliton and tolerant city Brighton & Hove is. A point lost on most people, it would seem.

So what is wrong with calling it Brighton Carnival and let everyone join in?

Get your facts right - legislation is discrimination against sexual orientation - not discrimination against homosexuality.

I think you took my point about it celebrating Brighton a little too literally, but the fact remains everyone CAN join in. Pride is a celebration of who people are. Yes it started out at as homosexual event, and in many ways it still is, but these days all sorts of people take part. It's definitely not a gay-only zone. Just ask Chappers when he's gets on here, he goes every year.

I live in a BN1 postcode. In fact, as I'm two minutes from Churchill Square I'll have a more central postcode than you.

Am I allowed to say you're talking bollocks?

I am not talking bollocks I am just enjoying myself and geographically
I am more central than you because I am nearer the pavillion.
