It's ironic that, as the Spanish points out, you are a big fan of Basil Fawlty but don't find AP funny at all. Very very similar characters. Classic British comedy anti hero. AP has been far more fleshed out than Basil over the years though and has continued to be ten on ten.

I guess he thinks Fawlty Towers is a documentary!?! And that Al Murray does actually run a pub?

Glad to hear the film is good, looked reasonable from the bits I've seen online. Did worry that it was going one of those films where all the good bits were going to be in the trailer after the poor effort that was that last youtube/sky one series he did.

Don't talk crap. Fawlty Towers is a classic comedy and has been the benchmark of British Comedy for years. Just like OFAH, one foot in the Grave etc. Alan Partridge, doesn't even compare to those classic comedies.

The guy is just like Ricky Gervais, a self-obsessed idiot who acts like the whole world involves around him and nobody else.

Good indication of this film going to be panned is the release date. School Holidays, kids everywhere for the next six weeks, it doesn't stand a chance!

Alan Partridge, a comedy character now in his 20th year having appeared in The Day Today, his own brilliant radio series, numerous TV series in variations over a decade, podcasts on North Norfolk radio, a hugely successful book and now a film....but he doesn't even compare to One Foot in The Grave!!??

Just got out from the premiere, Mr coogan came on stage and introduced the film and what a film. Brilliant performances, brilliant story and kept everybody laughing from start to finish. So many funny lines, it's difficult to remember them all but during the siege in the film Alan is promised the breakfast show slot because of his heroics he starts musing wether he should be called "the morning rooster or the talking cock" I have others but I won't spoil it for you. Partridge fans will lap it up,as it has all the favourite characters Lynn, Michael, Dave cliffton, but if you've never seen the t.v series their is more than enough to tickle your funny bone. In short, brilliant go see it

Fantastic news, incredibly jealous you got to go, sounds brilliant!

One foot in the grave? Above Partridge in terms of comedy? You HAVE to be kidding.

Partridge is up there with one of the best comedy characters of the last 20 years, most comedians would agree with that too. I do not think Victor Meldrew would be in the top 20.

Sorry mate, but this is the top 50 comedies which was voted in a huge poll in 2004.

Have a look very carefully at number 10, then number 42.

I am talking about the character. Not who voted on some popularist poll.

You seem to like your good comedy (OFAH/Blackadder/Towers) and so if you are not 'getting' Partridge then you really should sit down and watch it from the start- early day today stuff, knowing me knowing you and I'm Alan Partridge. Once you understand the character it is amazing comedy. Up there with the very, very best.

I've seen a few episodes and I just don't see the big fuss about him. There is nothing there to say up there with the best, the very best. IMO.

all of this One Foot in the Grave business reminds me of - "Wings? they're only the band the Beatles could have been!"

Basil I am beginning to understand why you are not a partridge fan.

I'm going to sound a bit rude here, but you seem a little simple, sounds like you have been told what to find funny, by parents, relatives and not giving anything new a chance. Comedy can be funny if it was created in the last 20 years. OFAH has somme absoulte toilet episodes OFITG I can't see how that is funny at all? One catchphrase and a grumpy old man, good at best.

Partridge is a brilliant character, forget your hatred for steve coogan but you clearly can't and that's why you don't give such a great comedy a chance, or simply you wasn't told to find it funny when growing up.
