I know you find discussing me fascinating, but the thread's about whether Mark McGhee should go because of the footballing decisions he's made. Cheers.

I wouldnt want to discuss you at all, cheers, because I think you're a over-verbose bore, but seeing as you have asked I think McGhee has made some truly baffling team selection and tactical decisions this season.

Despite that, I wouldn't sack him now, because with a win on Saturday, everything could change and we could still get out of jail.

Hard to see though given current apalling record where our goals are going to come from.

mix some prawns with a little, mayonaise, ketchup, tabasco and a little garlic, add salt and pepper to taste,
butter two pieces of bread wholemeal preferably, place the prawns in between, cut into four triangles
ps triangles taste better than squares

Unfortunately ,they didn't f*** off until they had inflicted near-fatal damage on our club.I'm not denying that we must move on-but we must also never forget whose actions have blighted us for the last 8 years

This mantra has been repeated over and over again by about 6 people in this thread now, although of course it completely fails to address the points about the different tactical challenges different opponents pose for us. One-size-fits-all is simple, and simplistic.

I think you are way off the mark there. Settled formations mean players know what their role in the team is, settled sides mean that players know their teamates game, so they should compliment each other. This chopping and changing that the wooley back is currently employing at the club is creating a situation where the players are looking lost and we are losing.

I think Mr McGhee deserves a lot of credit for what he has done this year, after all the critics were saying we were going down and to be honest I didn't think we had what it took to cut it out in this division. MM has come in and given us a real chance of staying up and although we currently sit in the relegation zone, I put all of my trust and faith of us staying in this division into the hands of McGhee.

You present the fact that Virgs changed position 3 times in the game as some kind of McGhee masterplan. It was a result of injury. Can you admit that?
Simster said:
Even in your reply, you yet again choose to present your opinion as fact.

Basically, that statement is nonsense. The very point UB is trying to make is that he does understand why Virgo started in midfield! You justify it by saying he'd had rigourous training. Apart from the fact that you don't even know whether he was given extra "midfield" training (whatever that is), it is NOT his natural position. Why pay other players to play in midfield if you're going to move your defender come striker into that position. It makes no sense.

Only two positions at best were necessary.

McGhee was quoted as saying they trained with that formation

Bless. As usual you avoid the blindingly obvious point I make - i.e. that your original post was bollocks and merely your opinion presented as fact. But you choose to make an irrelevent snidey comment instead - although I do realise you only do this to make yourself feel clever.

*sigh* OK, I retract my comment about Virgo in midfield. Yes he trained for it, because it says so in the Argus. But as I'm sure even you realise, we were arguing that we had two paid-up midfielders who could do the job. Therefore Virgo did NOT need to play 3 positions against Reading. So contrary to your OPINION, it was NOT a result of injury.

Why is there any debate about Mark McGhee's future.

a) We have not gone down yet and
b) if we do then Mark McGhee must still be given a new contract.

This season we have lost four players to retirement, two to other clubs, to keep the club alive, and numerouse others to injuries. We have been punching above our weight all season as on budget we should be bottom (where Rotherham are now). The reason we are not is Mark McGhee, his staff and the players have done brilliantly. We may be on a bad run now but it has involved a lot of bad luck and bad decisions (by referees). Fortunately for this club, I believe that Dick Knight has more common sense and foresight than people on this board and we will still have Mark McGhee as manager next season. We have to be realistic unlike some Premier League clubs who can sack their manager at any time. Maybe certain Tottenham fans on here should remember that. Last time we needed a new manager everybody wanted Tony Adams. Now he was a success in management wasn't he?

Remember, the grass is rarely greener on the other side.

Finchley, I agree with the first bit of what you say, but I believe that even with the retirements, injuries and bans we could have performed a damn sight better than we have in the last 6 matches.

I don't want McGhee to get sacked, and I don't think he will - even if we go down. However, I don't understand how Molango, Robinson and Jarrett have not been given more chances. Surely they could not have done any worse than those that have performed in their places?

Since Hinsh got injured we've been especially abject. Why not Virgo back in defence and Molango / Robinson in the team?
