I'm considering offering to play for Portsmouth.

I wonder if they'd have me?

Now, just to be clear here, I'm 41, and the highest level of football I've ever played was representing my University, 20 years ago, but I'm a reasonable goalkeeper.

Portsmouth have EIGHT players (FIVE of whom they are actively trying to get rid of) including NO keepers.

They'll get a young keeper in from somewhere, or a loanee or something, but they'll need a sub.

Do you reckon if I rock up at their training ground (about a mile from my house) and ask for a trial, offering to play for FREE, they'd sign me up? It would be quite cool to say you were a player at League One level.

Obviously I work full time, so they'd have to agree to me not actually turning up for training or anything.

Also, I'm a bit worried about the effect it might have on my freindship with Edna K.

If they turn you down, you could try Rangers.

I'm not THAT bothered, and I'm not convinced Scottish L3 is a higher level than I play at now, anyway.

Also - they don't train just down the road.

HOPE you're NOT expecting ANY wages to PLAY

No - the offer would be to play for free, simply for the GLORY (of sitting on the bench for a crap league one football team).

Seriously, if I were decent enough, I'd contact them and arrange a trial. What have you got to lose?

Obviously you would never be able to post on here again. Scumbag etc

Good point.

I could actually put that to my employer as a bargaining tool. Let me go and train for 2 hours a day, but you'll see a net benefit, as I won't be allowed to spend 4 hours a day on NSC.

You can't moderate on here and be a Pompey player.... There must be a conflict of interest or something. What would happen if people called you a useless ginger tosser when they saw you play and put in on NSC. How could it work ?

If I heard anyone shouting that at a game, I'd just stick my fingers in my ears, or assume they were directing it at Dave Kitson.

But if they wrote it on here ? You,re fragile, it could destroy you.
