I'm a compulsive gambler.

Sorry mate but if I am being completely honest, with all the shit that is happening in the world and all the incurable illnesses that some kids get, I'm finding it really hard having much sympathy for you. I do regret that you don't go to matches any more though and I do wish you well as a fellow NSCer.

Its not just the gambler that suffers.

Not sure where he has asked for sympathy?

As someone who has/had a problem, I would never blame amyone else. It was my choice and only I could stop it. Although my GP (I had to tell her what was happening beacise they were worried why had lost so much weight in a short space of time) recomenn3ed GA etc, I felt the only way to stop was jus to take good look at myself and realise I was f***ing stupid and not far from losing everything. Although I still gamble small amounts every week, it is no where near when I was doing £10k a week and I am comforatable with it, can afford it and enjoy it.

Football is a huge problem for me as gambling is heavily influenced from it which is why I never go to matches anymore.
I feel for you. Hopefully a problem shared is a problem halved for you, and you find people here with some experience and good advice.

Good luck, hopefully we'll see this post bounced with successful milestones.

Why on earth did you feel compelled to share the first part?

Not saying you're wrong, how you feel about it is your choice entirely but you could've just said 'wish you well as a fellow NSCer' surely?

Anyway, good luck kicking the habit 1066, you'll get there.

Setting personal opinions of Adrie to one side, he has reached out by starting this thread, I suggest that if can't say anything nice, don't say anything.

If he posts bollocks on another thread by all means give him some stick, but not here.

Hear Hear.

It's the same all the time on here. Someone has a problem and everyone sticks the boot in. He might be a total knob but if he's got a problem he doesn't need a bunch of know nothing's taking the piss.

I love gambling and have done it for years. I stick to small stakes and enjoy the buzz. All about self control. Good luck.

Really good advice.

Get on the 5K Park Runs and set yourself targets.

I gambled for 2 years and got into fairly bad debt, mostly on the Roulette scam. There's no big win in gambling, you'll never walk out a winner in the long run. Cut your losses and save your hard earned.

Incorrect.

Never underestimate that there are people out there that are cleverer than yourself

There are many, many losers on Betfair BUT over 10,000 people in the World are £10,000 ahead each year. This data was published in their PLC launch prospectus

You only ever hear of professional/amateur gamblers making money , you don't hear of professional/amateur gamblers breaking even or eventually making a loss. Amateur gamblers will always lose. My old man was a compulsive gambler , dogs , horses , football etc. Addiction to gambling is the same as being addicted to alcohol , tobacco or hard drugs and to break the habit its a case of taking one day at a time. Good luck Adrie.

Look up a thread on Financial Spread Betting from last January/February.
Every poster when asked for tips either said don't do it or commented without tips.
I alone posted two tips, have a look & tell me what you think?

^^Great way to look like an a$$hole mate.^^

"you'll never walk out a winner in the long run."

As in, a person with a gambling problem will NEVER walk out a winner in the long run.

Brighton / Hove actually
Gambling only works when you have got money on tap and you can afford to lose. If you are gambling to pay your rent, mortgage or to feed your family it doesn't work.

The worst thing you can do is feel it's your lucky day. I've placed two bets in my life, one was a £5 on Bruno to beat Tyson and the other was a £5 on a 33/1 horse tip. The horse came in and we got another tip a week later, all my friends placed money on the second tip and lost what they got from the first one. I didn't feel it was worth the gamble, kept my money and haven't gambled since.

I had another friend who was addicted to fruit machines, a group of us we were in the pub having a drink and he spent a couple of hours feeding a fruit machine, once he spent all his money, and looking very sorry for himself, he had the cheek to ask if someone would buy him a pint. Gamblers tend to suck energy out of people and want sympathy for being unlucky.

The only gambles in life you should take are on yourself, because at least then you have some control over the outcome.
