I definitely agree, I have had some cracking wine from Alsace...very much under the radar, heading out there later this month and will be sampling and stock
With French wine it is all so easy to be sucked in by the big labels, but for me the trick and the reward comes from uncovering gems. Take Chateuaneuf du Papes for example. Big label, big prices. But not 8 miles away is the village of Gigondas. Same climate, same soil, same terroir, same blend of grapes, and a wine worthy of absolute parallel. But literally half the price. Some absolute gems. So the reward is not just great wine itself, but also, uncovering gems and great value. Enjoy a safe and rewarding trip to Alsace.

What you having with your red wine?
It was this asian fusion type small plates / tapas place. Really quite nice, good vegetarian options for her and meat for me.

Had an ill-advised cocktail before heading home which was tasty but has left my head feeling a bit sore.

Nothing to do with the wine or the beer, obviously.

In a pile of football shirts
I went for a bottle of Jim Barry 2021 Eastern Ranges Shiraz from Clare Valley with dinner followed by a couple of Wantsum’s Imperium at the Five Bells and topped off with a large Bookers bourbon. All in all a pleasant way to spend a birthday evening.

Got an English sparkling wine tasting at Interlude, Leonoardslee, this lunchtime 🥂

Well I'm doing a beef and carrot in ale in the slow cooker overnight tomorrow ready for my Mum coming over on Sunday.

But tomorrow Me and Mrs Wz are having Moules Mariniere, followed by Lamb Cutlets with Cherry and Balsamic Glaze, Potato Dauphinoise with a Green vegetable Medley with Raspberry Panna Cotta for pudding.

M&S Valentine meal doesn't start till Monday, so we've had to make do with the Waitrose one tomorrow

I'm hoping 4 or 5 Valentine's deals will see us survive next week.

That sounds lovely but Mrs Q is a nightmare. She is so fussy. She wouldn’t eat any of that. I tend to do mainly pasta dishes and I’m good at those but even then she won’t eat lamb, beef or veal. She won’t eat mushrooms or fish or ……
f*** it I’ll get her a KFC

Sounds nice. But I hate the use of the word 'medley' to describe veg. Gordon Ramsay wouldn't use it and he's top dog!
