If you were to move to sussex where would you go ?

Right then. I'm always trying to persuade Mrs Wildy Ears that we should move back to the land of my four fathers (Old Mrs Wildy Ears got about a bit). Thing is I don't know where I'd move to. Given the choice I'd choose the North Laine but probably don't want to live right into the center of town. So the remit is :I want to be walking distance/15 drive of the sea and in Sussex, and I want to avoid suburbia hell(ie peacehaven etc).
So my little i chums, where would you suggest ?

somewhere in Eastbourne
Funny we were talking about this a few days ago (it would take a reasonable win on the lottery to move any way) but the place of choice would be Lewes nice big house in one of the tree lined roads would do thanks if anyone has the cash to spare and donate to our fund.

I spent the better part of three years living with my girlfriend in Lindfield, and it really is a lovely place. I can comfortably say that it's one of the nicest parts of Sussex :)
However if you want to live within "walking distance" of the sea, it's probably not for you!

Talking of which. Mrs G has started talking about moving to Lewes and I've been looking at houses. What's Landport like, it seems very cheap. I know it's the rough end of Lewes but how rough are we talking about? Is it Whitehawk rough? Moulsecoomb rough? Or is it the sort of rough where you get into fights but the butlers will hold their coats for you?

I was brought up in Scoomb and my missus comes from a Bermondsey council estate so we're not too bothered by a rundown place as long as it's not the sort of place where there are drug dealers on every corner.

North of either Brighton or Worthing, in the stretch between Poynigs in the East and Fittleworth in the West.

Way out west
Having growd up in Storrington, and seen during my lifetime the village being pretty well ruined by new developments, I would want to go back to the same sort of area...my choice, if I could afford it, would be somewhere like Amberley, Bury or Fittleworth.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think it would be Lewes, you know. Its got its down sides but its got good pubs, surrounded by lovely countryside and close enough to Brighton for gigs and nights out. Plus its just up the road from Falmer and having spent the afternoon avoiding working from home and browsing property web sites we could afford a nice little place with a decent size garden.
Now to work on Mrs Wildy Ears.
