Ley lines are spooky.

If you stand on top of Chanctonbury Ring and look across to Ditchling Beacon ... it's a perfect straight line between the two summits.

How weird is that?

Also, if you stand on the top of the Helter Skelter on the Pier and look at the chip shop next to Banjo Groyne, ther is another perfectly straight line between them as well!

Curiouser and Curioser, these Ley Lines are EVERYWHERE!

Years ago on Glastonbury Tor following a weekend at the festival surviving on scrumpy and small pieces of blotting paper I saw a hundred druids ( men and woman ) stripping each other naked and smearing each others bodies in honey from swarfiga tins.

Explain that then.

The thing is Ley lines are a geographical feature and many websites show aerial views of them, no-one disputes their existance. What their origins or purpose are is the mystery. There are many important buildings built on them, Buckingham Palace and Wembley are two English examples.

I was just plotting out the route for a trail run tomorrow, using the excellent Footpath app - https://footpathapp.com - venturing to an area I've not been to before, but very close to trails I use a lot.

The app shows an area marked as "Clapham Wood Mystery" so, I searched to see what that was. Sounds like all manner of weird goings-on, and then I got to this thread.

Can I give the NSC master password to someone in case the woods take me?

Clamp might be an obvious choice.

Come back safe and well.

Clapham woods? My parents moved to Goring in 1970, and quite often when we visited we might go for a walk in Clapham woods - possibly even through to the early eighties Then suddenly, they wouldn't go near the place any more. Never did find out why.

Early 80s? Coincidence, I imagine...

Between 1972 and 1981, the bodies of four missing people were found in the woods.

In June 1972, the body of Police Constable Peter Goldsmith was found in the woods, six months after he disappeared.

Three years later, missing pensioner Leon Foster's body was found by a couple searching for a lost horse.

In 1978, Reverend Harry Neil Snelling's body was found around three years after he was first reported missing.

Then, in November 1981, Jillian Matthews, a homeless individual with schizophrenia, was brutally murdered and left in the woods.

Natives a bit unfriendly then? .... or Sussex' answer to Fred West? No idea, but the lasr time I went there - on my own, and against parental advice - it didn't feel very comfortable, somehow. Haven't been back in more than thirty years.

It’s a very unpleasant place.

Strange to see an old thread of mine pop up. Been a while since I’ve gone by Nibble. Happy days.

Dunno - not sure there was a resolution to any of the four cases.

I guess some people just think "better safe than sorry", ot as the article I read - https://www.sussexlive.co.uk/news/history/clapham-wood-chilling-sussex-woodland-4506807 - puts it...

Despite the host of accounts of haunted happenings in the woods, there does not appear to be any recent incidents - perhaps because most people are too afraid to visit.

My eldest woke up from a bad dream mid last night. She said about 20 raccoons were trying to make a nest in the roof and the more she tried to shoo them away the more aggressive they got. At that point she said her mum appeared on roller skates, with a towel wrapped around her head trying to spank them with a wooden spoon. That didn't work and they became more aggressive and were trying to bite her, at which point she found herself wielding 2 swords that swiftly put an end to them.

Ha! Yes I did. Twice. It fascinated me. It’s still a strange place.
