Only 6 sensible people on this board, and 70 of the thickest people this country has to offer.

I think a subject should be introduced to all school curricula that combines the rudiments of economics, politics, recent history and business studies, and that a pass at this subject at GCSE level should be a prerequisite to casting votes at council and general elections. The election results will then be decided by voters who actually have an interest and a grasp of what they're voting for rather than the herd mentality following the tabloids, hearsay and family traditions. Those between the ages of 18 & 60, should sit a simple test along the lines, above, and that will sort the wheat from the chaff, as well as excluding those that can't be arsed. The over 60's will granted exemption on compassionate grounds.

Apart from the abandoning of that absurd inheritance tax change, they don't seem to have extracted many concessions from the Tories at all.

A 15.45% increase in the tax-free Personal Allowance, from £6,475 to £7,475 was down to the Lib Dems. However, as this won't come in until next April it's gone unheralded.

Additionally, Clegg has reiterated at conference his commitment to the aim of a £10,000 tax-free Allowance. I don't see New Labour offering such a good deal to the low paid.

OK, so that's £200 a year the low paid will be better off, a whole year after he formed a government.

Fairly good news, as it might offset some of the savage cuts that are being proposed. I remain concerned that this government is still insistent on cutting past the fat and into the muscle I'm afraid.

If you're part-time and on £6,500 p.a. the Personal Allowance rise is, effectively, a 3% tax reduction.

This thread is bollocks anyway. What do people expect the Coalition to have achieved in 4 1/2 months? As for Labour, how can 40% on here say they'll vote for them when they're leaderless and haven't even come up with any alternative policies?

For the same reason that CMD led the opinion polls for 2 years without ever committing to any policy at all. It's about who you trust.

Load of rubbish, what exactly will the BNP do to improve anything? I am not certain they even have an economic policy.

They do actually, its immigrants.

Their education policy is immigrant as well.

Their environmental policy is immigration.

Their stance on unions is immigrated

They believe whole heartedly that all of the problems facing society today can be solved with a closure of our borders to immigrants.

And this, is why they have no seats.

This.

Giraffe, the only thing pig ignorant is the hundreds of thousands of low paid workers in this country who voted Conservative hoping they'll make life better for them.

Turkeys voting for Christmas. The Tories couldn't give a f*** about the working man, they never have and they never will.

Endless privatisation, endless cuts, endless heartache to those who elected them.. well, at least there is one positive there.

I think this will turn out to be one of the best policies for both Lib Dems & Tories. It just makes perfect sense; especially when it's viewed in conjunction with Tax Credits. It gives people the incentive to get back to work (yes, I accept that there needs to be the jobs), as the amount of take-home pay will be greater.

Let low earners keep enough of their salary. All tax payers benefit, but the impact is more noticable on the lower earners, and it will more than likely get spent, therefore increasing economic activity.

You're entitled to your opinion about the Tories, but what I don't get is why people don't associate any of those things with the Labour government we had for the past decade. They had 13 years to help the working man but all their social engineering acheived was to create a state dependant underclass - the non-working man.

People with socialist views should not be voting for New Labour.

It is a FACT that the gap between rich and poor got wider under Labour, so that's a fair point.

Nevertheless, you won't find the Labour Party proposing APPALLING policies such as raising the inheritance tax threshhold to £1,000,000 whilst at the same time proposing the slashing of public spending to pay back our national debt. Not exactly a policy for the working man is it?

75 votes so far for Labour. You idiots have a short memory or are worried about your benefits being cut

I wonder why many people think that the Tories are unbearably arrogant.

I think that proves how unpopular the coalition government is. Labour will win the next election hands down.

Just far enough away from LDC
Speaking as a labour member I would say I've been impressed with Cameron himself but the rest of the government have been as bad as I feared. WE will pay dearly for osborne's cuts which are driven by ideology rather than by necessity and the lib dens repulse me with their power struck behaviour.

If David m wins the leadership race then the lib dem party will fracture. If ed m wins then clegg can retain the centre ground and may save his party.
