WW3 is already happening. It's being done through proxies, sanctions, trade and cyber. It won't be like WW1 and WW2.

What counts as a World War anyway? WW1 was fairly localised even though troops from all over the British Empire were in combat, while WW2 was fought in many different theatres.

What might kick off a big global war? China invading Taiwan, which might bring in the USA, Japan and South Korea, and then possibly Russia, but now on the USA side when a few weeks ago you might have thought it would side with China? Israel looking to take advantage of the new situation in Syria, with Iran and Russia getting involved? Ah, but Russia must now be on Israel's side rather than Iran's because Putin is mates with Trump ... ees complicated, as a wiser man than me once said.

It is genuinely astonishing to think that only 12 months ago, if there was a WW3 it would have been blindingly obvious which countries would be on which side, and yet 12 months later nobody is quite sure. The world is changing so quickly at the moment.

As for the 'winners', my money would be on the Chinese. They seem to be the smartest out of all of them, and would likely sit back and let it play out and then take advantage once everybody else had blown each other to smithereens.

Given that Trump and Putin seem to be in bed and from the latest utterances from Trump they seem to be getting ready to divvy up Ukraine between them, it won’t be the US vs Russia will it?

So who will be fighting who in WW3 that Trump warned Zelensky about?

Surely, by definition, in a World War the entire world will be at war? Isn't that how it works?

Looking at it rationally no state would benefit from that scale of destruction. So the one's to worry about are those with religious extremists running or close to their governments like Israel, Iran and the USA. The apocalyptic obsessions of American evangelicals becomes particularly frightening the more that country lives in its own version of reality.

Putin MIGHT be rational, even if he is a nukes sabre rattler and a murdering bastard. Can anyone state that Trump is rational whilst keeping a straight face though?

More likely to happen is US civil war, triggered by assassination and/or Trump's dictatorship. Then I think we'll see China invade Taiwan and maybe Russia take the Baltic states, both exploiting American's implosion. Regardless, the only thing I would say is guaranteed in any scenario is that Europe will be frozen with indecision, and unable to do anything meaningful. I'm sure the coffee and biscuits will be nice at all the emergency summits though.
