WW3 is already happening. It's being done through proxies, sanctions, trade and cyber. It won't be like WW1 and WW2.
Indeed. When I was in DC a few years ago general consensus of opinion (National Spy Museum) was the US's greatest threat was someone just switching off the power grid. Job done.

Many areas reaching flashpoint

Israel expansion
China into Taiwan
Russia into the Baltics
US expansion into Canada, Greenland and Latin America.
Right wing influence in Europe (Elon Musk)

The world really needs some adults in the room.

What counts as a World War anyway? WW1 was fairly localised even though troops from all over the British Empire were in combat, while WW2 was fought in many different theatres.

What might kick off a big global war? China invading Taiwan, which might bring in the USA, Japan and South Korea, and then possibly Russia, but now on the USA side when a few weeks ago you might have thought it would side with China? Israel looking to take advantage of the new situation in Syria, with Iran and Russia getting involved? Ah, but Russia must now be on Israel's side rather than Iran's because Putin is mates with Trump ... ees complicated, as a wiser man than me once said.

Don't think China has been involved in either of the previous world wars so probably won't want to miss out in the next opportunity ....

But they have no loyalty points so may not get a ticket?
China was involved in WW2 both Nationalist and Communist forces suspended their civil war to fight the Japanese. Which is why first the RoC and then the PRC are on the security council.

Well this dog might see it, but it doesn't know what it is...

‘Russian various wars over last 30 years
  • First Chechen War, 1994–1997.
Russia heavily bombed Chechnya during its 1994-96 war there. Russia lost that war and signed a peace treaty, agreeing to leave Chechnya and giving the territory autonomy, though not formal independence.

  • Second Chechen War, 1999–2000.
The peace agreement failed, and the second Chechen war which ended in 2000 but by 2009, Russian security forces had regained full control over virtually all of Chechnya, and the territory was reincorporated into the Russian state.
  • Russo-Georgian War, 2008.
Russia invaded and won independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia from Georgia Since 2008, the South Ossetian government has expressed their intention of joining the Russian Federation.
  • Russo-Ukrainian War, 2014–present. Russian invasion of Ukraine, 2022–present
Russia occupies Crimea and parts of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Luhansk, Mykolayiv, and Zaporizhzhya Oblasts.

Other previously Soviet controlled states that Russia see as legitimate targets especially if they are successful in securing its current holds in Ukraine with the support of the USA

Putin has said Russians will be protected anywhere with that in mind

Estonia has an ethnic Russian enclave of Narva.

Latvia ethnic Russians make a quarter of the population.

Lithuania lodged as it is between hyper-armed Kaliningrad and Belarus.

Belarus currently has a friendly dictator however it has not sent troops to Ukraine or host Russian air bases. The Kremlin might calculate that it could oust President Alexander Lukashenko and take control of or annex Belarus without Western intervention.

Moldova in February Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that Moldova could become the next Ukraine Russian troops already occupy separatist Transnistria.

Kazakhstan northern regions host significant Slavic minorities.
So called Peacekeepers from the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organisation intervened to help quell protests in Kazakhstan last year.

Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan boarder the Caspian Sea and all are incredibly oil rich Russia would love to regain control, if Russian confidence is not checked the fear is Russia might think this is worth another annexation.

Russia clearly sees these Countries as within there sphere of influence Russia could expect strong Western political opposition and tougher sanctions but no large-scale military intervention as so far from NATO's main sources of power.

Controlling Russia with its colonial ambitions is also incredibly important if China’s own confidence Is to be limited.

Trump has completely upturned the world order and is playing a very dangerous game one he has played many times in his business career sometimes it has paid off spectacularly but on seven occasions it led to bankruptcy which in geopolitical terms could well be WW3
