If the Germans had invaded Britain during WW2 what would the result have been.

Had they succeeded, or looked likely to succeed, we would have seen widespread collaboration by the upper classes and corporate interests. A puppet leader would have been installed not that dissimilar in style (if not a perfect match in beliefs) to a prominent UKIP politician whilst the real strings were being pulled by the German delegation installed in Senate House, London. Leftists, Jews and other prescribed groups would have been gradually and quietly shipped out to holding camps on the Isle of Wight prior to deportation to Eastern Europe. They tried they lost. It was called the battle of Britain. They needed air supremacy and were stopped by the RAF . The Germans made the huge mistake of invading Russia.

It wasn't the mistake of invading Russia, it was the mistake of fighting on 3 fronts. If he could've sprted out a Chamberlain style peace in our time again with the British then he'd have freed up many more resources from Western Europe and Africa to focus on taking on the Russians. They came ever so close, whether those additional forces would've made the difference is debatable, but I'm glad they didn't.

to chime in with the "it would have failed", we have to remember the German had one tactic, blitzkrieg. its why they ultimately failed in Russia because once they got bogged down in a war of attirition there wasnt much special about the german army. and you cant execute blitzkrieg over a 1-4 hr sea crossing, especially with a floatila of canal barges, so it would have been big defeat. by the time of D-Day there had been years of perfecting amphibious warfare in the pacific so the Allies had massive tactical advantage.

Wouldn't have helped leaving most of our heavy weaponry behind at Dunkirk, but without air superiority I doubt they would have made it very far inland. If they had won the BOB I doubt an underequipped army without air cover could have held them back for very long, unless the Navy somehow managed to keep the channel closed with constant Luftwaffe attacks. Thankfully Hitler ordered the Luftwaffe to switch from bombing airfields to bombing cities in retaliation to Berlin being bombed. That gave the RAF much needed respite, and the rest, as they say, is history

and what did that count for at Stalingrad? or El Alamein or after D-Day for that matter. history tells us that the primary military advantage in WWII (and leading up) was in a single tactic, and that they didnt fare so well at other times.
