For shits & giggles, the Stadium gets turned down, the NIMBYS rejoice but then BANG a new development gets the go ahead and its one of the Poll options
(been done before I know but we have new members since then)

Personally I reckon a 24hr Supermarket would get right on their tits, I'd give it 6months before they wish they never objected to us!

An organically-sound raw sewage processing unit for the entire SE of England - nothing is enclosed and no artificial chemicals are used to disguise the smell of the 12 month process.

You've hit the nail on the head with this thread. Now that planning permission has been approved by the Council for this bit of land there will be developers desperate to get hold of this bit of real estate. Luckily for the residents of Falmer it is owned by the City Council which will limit the development possibilities to things that will be for the benifit of the City of Brighton and Hove.

Historically the land at Falmer was set aside for an out of town hospital, but then the Sussex County was developed. Then there was talk of the BBC building there but it came to nothing. I seem to remember some sort of waste disposal (incinerator?) was considered for the site along with many others around the area. WAKE UP FALMER NIMBYS. This land will be developed. Its just a matter of what will be built.

The simple fact is something will be built on the land in the next 5-10 years if the stadium falls through. My money will be on a giant park and ride site serving both the universtities and the centre of Brighton. The issues surrounding car access to the site has been covered in the earlier inquiry. The location, train station and bus route into the city makes it perfect.

So Falmer what do you want, a stadium used once every two weeks or a giant carpark used 24 hours a day 7 days a week? I know what I would want.

Exactly mate, living near the Holmbush 24 Tescos/Petrol in Shoreham I know whats its like to see endless queues all weekend, the sound of Tesco lorrys reversing into the Bays at 4am and such like. I'd much rather be disturbed for no more than a maximum of 6 hours a week rather than the hustle and bustle of 24hrs a day 7 days a week 365 days a year.

Its abit late now but maybe we should've invited the NIMBYS to spend two weeks living at Withdean then two weeks living near a 24 Supermarket, then see what they would have to say!

Personally I would like to see the Moulescoomb Estate extended through Falmer Village, then go all the way up to Lewes. :)
