This is the ONE thing I don't forgive Potter for.

It is an "interview failer" in one quote.

I do not want any manager who is coming here with an "easy life" mindset. Oh well, it is what it is, not fussed, easy life.

I want dreams, and daring to dream them.
It’s not a great look at interview… “so Graham, are you coming back for an easy life?”

We are not going to appoint Potter now only for him to sod off again in July if Southgate leaves the England job.

That would be an utter blunderf*ck.
Exactly
After years of being on the fringes, and mostly out on loan - and then a potentially very good loan to the Championship in England being right royally cocked up - I expect he'll take himself out of the door as fast as he can when his contract expires. This summer, I think?
His level is probably high end Championship/bottom third of the PL. Hope he finds a good home at last!
Said on here before but bizarrely his cousin came round and quoted me on new blinds ....

Fair to say alzate was not team potter !

Just because you're prepared to overlook a manager bad-mouthing us as fans and the club after he left don't assume all of us are. You're not a better fan than anyone else because you're prepared to do so.
The OP wasn't saying he was prepared to overlook a manager bad-mouthing us; his point was that it wasn't bad-mouthing at all, in context it was a valid and true statement - managing a club with stable owners and a top CE, where he was loved and his job was secure, was a much easier job than managing Chelsea, with its entitled and unsupportive fans, even worse, its entitled players and an unstable management that were all over the place. Difficult to argue with that.

Absolutely, those were some fine results, though not entirely unexpected from the team entering the competition as favorites-behind-Liverpool to win the entire thing. Beating Palace and Sheffield United was also good stuff.

But ultimately, taking 33 points from the 32 last games with our most expensive squad ever, probably our highest ever wages, while giving the manager several of his personally chosen "key players" like Fati and Dahoud... well, it's not going to be considered good enough. In 2018/19, Hughton only achieved two less points in the last 32, and was sacked... and this with a squad that cost around £150m (and some £50m of that was, unlike now, spent on players with very limited ability).

Some people blame injuries or the 4-5 extra games this season compared to 18/19 (CHs season of sacking). Or not signing enough world class players to beat Burnley.

Other people are more ambitious and not satisfied with the near-relegation-form displayed over 4/5ths of a season, with absolutely no sign of any turnaround. There was a lot of reasons we were never going to be as good this season, no matter the manager, as in 22/23, but to anyone with a bit of ambition - reaching similar lows as 6 years ago isn't really acceptable with the talent available (even with injuries).

As fans we all felt the impact of that night away in Rome it took all of the momentum out of the side and we had a serious hangover after it. The injury list last season was ridiculous and it’s not just about volume but our best starters and in key positions where we had no depth. Each week it was just a patched up side and we could not play the way RDZ wanted. He was visibly frustrated with the situation and the squad stumbled from game to game. In many ways it was the perfect storm for dropping down the table.

It’s impossible to turn around if you don’t have the tools at your disposal and a manager alone can’t account for a significant dip in quality available on the pitch (ask Rob Edward’s). I never saw signs the players were not playing for him but simply did not have key players and a consistent enough starting 11 to put any meaningful string of performances or results together.

I can only offer my personal feeling but it has felt since Feb that we were limping along in survival mode trying to see the season out.

Of course the owner will be FUMING at the idea that the club structure he built makes it an easy life for the manager compared to how it is to work with Todd Boehly & co on a daily basis.

Or he's not dead determined to read the worst into every single word uttered by Graham Potter. Maybe he has other things on his mind that some post-match interview against Leeds 3-4 years ago, where the manager said he disagreed with the fans booing the team. Or the other quote about managing a well-run smaller club like Brighton being an easy life compared to managing a chaotic Chelsea.

Maybe Tony Bloom just don't see these two sentences (which are always brought up because people have a severe lack of things to work with when they're on their mission to portray Potter's "poor" attitude) as offensive enough to make him go years and years despising the man who uttered them. Maybe Tony is just not as immature and thinly skinned that he remains upset on a daily basis about some post-game interview four years ago.

Truthfully, it would not be an "easy life" choice to come back here. This time, the easy life option is to stay at home and keep taking Chelseas money.

I had a feeling that after the Roma game we would not get many more points in the league. I think RDZ, the players and the fans had the wind kicked out of them.
Every team will have a bad run, it happens, its how quickly you can recover. I don't believe we recovered.
New Day, New Season and anything can happen.

He didn’t have to go there did he? And you know that wasn’t the context at all. You missed out the bit about wanting to win things with Chelsea like the f***ing champions league. How could you forget that cringe moment.

Exactly, People are excepting of three very average Potter seasons, RDZ has one bad half with like 9 first team injuries and some threw the toys out

Well of course he wanted to win things like the Champions League with Chelsea. Stupid to think any manager going to a top six club wouldn't want to do that!

It's an interesting take on it. And is exactly the angle I would go with if I were him and I came back, regardless of what I meant at the time!

Potter built the team that saw us rise to 9th. He left us with the strongest Albion team ever, and in great form, to allow RDZ to finish off his great work.

For me, RDZ showed his true colours in the 2nd half of last season. He was not the fighter we thought he was. He lacked ideas, and was stubborn with his tactics.

You can say what you like about Potter - but he was always willing to learn and improve... and he was true to that. For me, that's why he is and will always be a better manager than RDZ, and I fully believe he did more for the club overall... and it would be magnificent if he can come back and continue/start a new project with us.

Desperate and out of ideas. It would show the much vaunted succession planning was just a paper tiger.
We haven’t replaced Jewel or Winstanley unless I missed something.
Once Naylor spins the there were many high profile candidates yet they decided to give John from the club shop a go. It starts to wear a bit thin.
He’s done it again with Potter in his latest article.

He received a years pay off. Not the whole contract length.
I stand corrected. Still, would be an easier life for him to stay away from here.
Might be good practice for living with a large amount of hate from your own supporters, if he fancies the England job though.

Seems you can't say what you like about Potter, not without yourself or Han Swansman telling you you're wrong.

It would be magnificent if he stays away from us, holds out for the England job, and loses out on that to Eddie Howe.

Mike Cave has taken over from Sam Jewell as part of his duties as Assistant Technical Director to David Weir. Sam Jewell took over from Winstanley . Cave spent 9 years at Fulham before joining the Albion. They didn't find him in the club shop.
