[Albion] If Graham Potter is re-appointed...

Ah I see people are still seeing the April to September 2022 period as being representative rather than a purple patch in an otherwise largely uninspiring three years under Potter.
If only managing a club to succeed was a long-term project and not a short-term one? šŸ¤”

Imagine if it took years to transform Brighton from relegation candidates to top-half finishers. That would be awful, wouldn't it?

Iā€™d back the players, but Iā€™d be under serious doubt about the manager, Iā€™d expect him to be under pressure if he doesnā€™t perform, weā€™ve set standards now.
And what are the standards you expect when a manager is first appointed?

Those standards turned into relegation form which you accepted but you expect top 10 form instantly with a manager change?

Now that IS bizarre

Were you not at the Chelsea game? 2nd best atmosphere in Amex history and the fans weren't welcoming Potter back.
That game, beating Potter's Chelsea 4-1, screaming out: 'Potter?! Potter?! What's the score?!' while he's rearranging the deckchairs on The Titanic in the technical area with Billy and Bjorn....... and people want him back?

Nothing says ā€œdesperateā€ and ā€œon the back footā€ like welcoming back your former coach on more money.

Thatā€™s not Bloom and PBOBE surely?

Depends how you frame it. "Potter rejoins Brighton for free after mugging off Chelsea for tens of millions".

Besides, what's really desperate is going for some of these other mediocre rejects that we've been linked with. Cooper, etc.

At least Potter is genuinely a quality manager.

A*completely fails to take into account any player development that has occurred - ignoring the fact that they did not have the same ability then, as they do now
No not at all. I'd like to think consistent on this. Potter developed some players very well (not Connolly) and made them sellable assets. Particularly Bissouma, but some players hit the ground running from the Championship like White and Webster which was great.

He transformed the style of the Hughton team and managed to keep the defence tight. He's not all bad. And the end of 21/22 and start of the following season were mostly very very good.

But I hated watching his team for 2 and a half years when I think we massively underperformed in that period with some quality players. And i think it's uninspiring to go back to the days of those winless runs and the non scoring project or whatever it got called.

If he comes in and smashes it from the off then great, I'll happily eat humble pie and you and Swansman can happily tug off on it. But then what? He'll soon be off to a big job again, understandably.

So recruiting him to me feels like a backwards step, a dull appointment and a step back in time. And that's without even venturing into the manner of his last departure which upset an awful lot of supporters.

It's...not great
