I am now convinced Potter is top of the clubs list and they have enlisted Naylor to start smoothing the waters. There is so many other names he could have written about or even speculated about but fact he dedicated a whole one to Potter isn’t because he’s bored it’s because he’s been asked to.
Or he doesn’t have a clue who we really want.

True but we didn’t have a striker. Now we have Pedro and Ferguson (I know he was there but he’s older now and a genuine first team option. I’d be excited to see what spotter could do with Baleba.
We had Welbeck for a lot of the Potter era. And Maupay
I find it pretty disappointing that so many of our fans are so butt-hurt about:

- The fact he went to Chelsea to earn silly money at what is considered to be a top 6 team - something 99.9% of managers in his position would have done as well.

- The 'history lesson' thing. A poorly timed thing to say, granted... but it's hardly the crime of the century.

He's a TOP TOP manager. The best we can get right now, surely. He has proven success here and at other clubs. If we can get him we should be absolutely REJOICING, as the good times will be back. He has already contributed to the development of our best EVER players, and undoubtedly he will do the same with our current batch of young prospects.
What has he done that makes him 'top top'?

If you look at some of the great players he had to work with, only really Bissouma

A lot of us are butt hurt because the guy delivered about 12 fun games in 3 years, whilst the rest of it was pretty shite, despite a lot of it featuring great players like Dunk, Gross, Cucurella, Bissouma, Mac Allister, Trossard.

Really not sure what there is to be excited about going back to the start of a 3 year project when just 12 months ago we were the 6th best club in the country.

Andy Naylor might be the Athletic's go to man for news on the Albion, but if the club were choosing a journalist to try to get fans onside over a likely unpopular decision, he surely wouldn't be the sensible choice. We all know that he has a long history of lecturing fans of a club that he doesn't support, taking a patronising approach to the concerns of those who do, and writing deliberately provocative pieces with the obvious intent of winding supporters up for clicks. If the club were looking to leak out a story to win over fans then Brian Owen, Paul Hayward, Nick Szczepanik - yes. Andy Naylor - definitely not. He's surely just playing his weird games again.

You missed the calendar year without a home win and the run of 6 defeats on the spin when he literally wrote puff piece galore on how it was fine because the xG was good. Barber's puppet.

Yeh, I know. I never want to start a season like we did in 2022-23, ever again!
Ah I see people are still seeing the April to September 2022 period as being representative rather than a purple patch in an otherwise largely uninspiring three years under Potter.

After 2 and a half years of bouncing around the bottom half not winning games or scoring goals? We've just had 4 months of it and people can't cope, imagine another 2 years of it
Indeed. It’s not like Potter has managed Brighton previously and could hit the ground running, carrying on from the start of the 22/23 season 🤔

Yes, it would be utterly tragic if we achieved another 9th place finish under Potter.
I mean after finishing 6th and being in the Europa League, it would be pretty boring, to not be in touch with that for a lot of the season. Then go on a 6 match losing streak, and eventually on the final, be in a chance between finishing 9th and 13th. How enthralling.

Just like Micky Adams could hit the ground running and turn around the fortunes of a on the rise underrated young side.

Can't you see we're in a far superior starting position to when Potter was appointed the last time? I don't see why it would take another three years to get rolling again.

Well, I feel as if I’ve been ‘softened up’…. Or that is the attempt.
To be honest there don’t seem to be many other really exciting, available options out there.

Obviously, the reaction of the fans would be a factor, but also the players. Interesting that Naylor quoted Dunky in the article.

From GP’s perspective, it is fair to say that our striker options are much better than when he was in charge, or at least more obvious. He hadn’t really embraced Mitoma at that stage and Ferguson hadn’t broken through although it was GP who had given Ferguson his debut.

It was also an interesting comment about the prospect of significant squad strengthening. Something that I expect GP would want comfort on if he returned. From a fans perspective, I would find it hard to accept him back but I do accept that a target like KDH would probably be happy to come and play for a coach like Potter.

Also interesting it’s stated that Bruno would likely return with Potter. I’m pretty sure that was planted by Barber ( sorry, Naylor) to soften up some hardened feelings.

After that article I’m sure that I won’t get much with the bookies on a GP return.

Yes, wished we had a manager who had “lost motivation” halfway through the season when we had the chance of qualifying for Europe. Imagine if he constantly criticised the owner too? I would be ecstatic!

Potter hasn't got the balls to come back he knows exactly what he's thought about by 80% of the fans. If TB is having a problem with the algorithm he needs to turns off and turn back on again!

Fans are fickle as f***.

Won't take much (hopefully) for Bloom to convince Potter that after a decent run that all will be forgotten and fans will be singing his name.
