Yes we'll said.i agree with all of this.

Surely his playing ability would come into it
As I see it he’s a good defender not much more than that
We have had a number of centre halves at the club better
than him
Upson,Ingarmarson,Lawrenson,Butters
Young,Blackwell,Foster all better defenders than Dunk

Yes playing ability comes into it but as the OP said it's the combination of everything that will mark him out as the greatest if he stays with us.
I think he is better than a"good"defender as he could play at any of the top 6 clubs but at the moment he wants to stay with us which also is a big step in the direction of greatness.

Any top 6 club? I don’t think so

I would love to see Dunk stay and right now he is at the peak of his powers, but the Prem is a merciless cauldron so I hope when his legs do go he'll know and withdraw gracefully and at the right moment.

It would be horrible to see if he fell off a cliff, like Duffy at Celtic.

Blackwell? Young?

Not a chance mate.

A case can be made for Lawro, but not the others

Albion Roar?

I'm sure he's very warm when talking purely about Brighton to Brighton fans but he tends to forget all about it when he's on big media.

But my answer to that is he DOES talk to Albion fans, so clearly hasn't forgotten us.

If he really wanted to forget those four years here, he wouldn't talk to us, I'd suggest.

Upson 21 caps
Young 21 caps
Ingarmarson 30 caps
Blackwell and Butters were not capped at senior level
Sorry bud I just think Dunk is very average a good club servant
and put in some great performances but I can’t get on
the Should be an England regular bus. He’s simply not good enough for that
IMHO I think,as I’ve said we’ve had much better
You disagree and that’s what fans forums are all about

According to a Naylor tweet it’s Dunks 300th league game for the club tonight

Absolute legend

Only the third Brighton player to play 300 league games in the 21st Century.

I’d wager Dunk would have got more than 30 caps for Iceland.

Without doubt, when Guy Butters was the age Dunk is now
He was miles better

When Guy Butters was Lewis Dunk's age, he was playing the Third Division for Gillingham.

Yeah, you've nailed that argument.

Guy Butters himself (though maybe with a touch of modesty) would claim he wasn't even the best defender at the Albion when he played here, and you haven't even mentioned that player.
