West is BEST
I’ll start with this much loved repetitive load of crap

https://youtu.be/kMYg_Ra4cr8

After Michael Jackson, the most overrated act in modern history. A try-hard who faked his way to an extraordinary career. He has a few catchy tunes but that's about it imo. Watch him in interviews, he is a total fake. Even he clearly doesn't believe the nonsense he is spouting.

On the Border
My wife has looked over my shoulder while reading this thread and demanded that I mention that she hates Mull Of Kintyre and particularly the bagpipes in the song.

You weren’t so angry an hour ago :lolol:

Here’s some tripe from the supposed golden era, before Punk then synthesisers came along and ruined music forever.

My wife has insisted we watch an evening of Queen on BBC 4, of course I am now angry

It was what inspired this thread but I didn’t post Bohemian Rhapsody, I left it to someone else as I was certain it would get a mention soon enough

I think it unfair to include Duran Duran in this critique.

The OP asked for iconic songs. None of their poisonous guff would ever be considered iconic by anybody but eighties school girls and cloth-eared ironic review type pseuds.

You have clearly left it far too late to get out more.

Numan is a conplete legend. Here he is with Trent:

Love it ... saw him twice in Southampton around 80/81 (Teletour?) ... amazing stage setup.

And more recently at Brighton Dome ... his Mrs and young kid were there and the kid came on stage towards the end ... can't remember which song ... could have been Cars or Are Friends Electric.

I’ve just watched and I’m still watching the whole thing. I’d normally shy away from AIDS type doc’s …. too sad …. but I thought that prog was pretty special.

My view on Queen - half a dozen great songs and FM was an amazing performer. I saw a Live Aid doc a while back, where the assortment of lead singers to a person felt so inadequate on the day compared to him.

Always a Marmite thing on nsc - Queen, U2, Coldplay, The Beatles, Davy Propper, hiphop … threads are always polarised.

I went to the Brighton Centre gig of that Telekon tour, Sept 80?

That’ll anger some old timers :lolol:

I can probably anger some folk in the middle too by saying Prince's Purple Rain is a shocker. Just trying to work out what my third song in an unholy trinity of over-rated s*ite would be. Probably "Around the world" by Daft Punk. :D

Lots of 60 year old men on nsc love Duran.

“Underrated” apparently.
