I think some people need to lower their expectations ahead of next season...

But that's the point isn't it?...Just how much does he want, when is enough, enough. True we don't have the budget of the West Ham's of this world. But how happy would you be if Poyet asked you for £3million pounds to go and sign a top striker this summer, or more?

I suppose i would be setting a budget and telling Gus-blow the lot on one player if you wish, but that's all your getting

Listen to the interviews,,,all he goes on about is money, money, money all the time.

I totally agree. He is at the wrong club. He should be at Chelsea or Man City, they just buy success. Being the Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion requires some acknowledgement of the limitations of our Club (improving with the AMEX), and the need to get the best out of the Budget, and the players it will buy.

And you're going on about Gus going on about money, money, money all the time...

If he is on about money, it's probably because he's asked about 'money, money, money' all the time.

Actually he's not on about it all the time. You just have a low tolerance threshold for Gus and anything he says.

My expectations for next season is top 2 automatic promotion everything I ever do or play at I want to win be it scrabble football or golf and if I don't win I'll try harder next time to avenge defeat . But whatever happens I'll be gutted for a few days if we don't go up next year then I'll apply for my season ticket for the following season and hope we go up the next season and so on , but every year when a new season starts I always positively think right this is it this is brightons year .

Believe it or not and I know you won't. But I was as big a Poyet fan as anyone, up until his shortcomings have been exposed. I have said many times before, I do not want Poyet sacked and on the whole as it stands he has done a fantastic job at this football club...My bug bares are, his inability to change tactics and approach different games on there merits. His stubborn selection of certain players. The style of football on the whole is ok, but there is nothing entertaining about having 70% possesion of the football in your own half most of the game. Lack of goals and a appalling record away from home. If our home performances go down a bit we could be in real trouble next season.....Like I have said, lets hope and pray Poyet has learnt a lot this season because if he sticks to his footballing principles, I can see us only going in one direction. That's the same one as the last 13 games(over a quarter of a season)......oh and shooting his mouth off about things he should not get involved in, whatever people think of Sir Alex Ferguson a rookie manager should really not be making an enemy of a man with his statue in the game. He hasn't earn't the right..Just made himself and the club look stupid and out of touch with public opinion.

People are implying that we're almost guaranteed to make the play offs next season, and unless we make some improvements throughout the squad I can't see it happening. That's not me being unambitious and happy to see us finish mid table. But I can't see us finishing above any of the teams who come down from the Prem this year, amongst others.

I think that is a bit disengenuous. Nobody that I can see is saying we are guaranteed a play off place. The thread title is about lowering expectations when we have finished 10th. If they were lower then we would be in a relegation battle for most of the season. What people are saying is that having finished 10th on the back of a poor final quarter, our ambition is to finish higher next year and failure to do that would suggest that we are not matching TB and GP long term goals. Also, to say that you can't see us finishing in the play-offs without making any signings seems to ignore the fact that we will make signings during the close season and no doubt TB and GP will be looking to bring in better players than they are releasing, much like they did (well in most cases) last year.

You will be banging your head against a wall with TLO as you are not allowed to be realistic or critical,i can only imagine he has groupie written on the back of his Gus signed Y fronts, maybe he is on the payroll.

Whilst our away form has been a disappointment I think appalling is a bit much. 17th in the away form table in our first season at this level isn't appalling. We do need to score more away though. 16 goals in 23 games IS pretty appalling.

I think it will be great again next season - the same again will suit me fine. It will be a tough old division again - this division is full of big clubs most of whom will be thinking about promotion. Let's get in the mix again and see where it takes us. Gus will be a season wiser and we will have had another tremendous time at the Amex watching fantastic football.

It looks like Blackburn will come down with Wolves. Not sure either of them will do better than play offs, probably worse.

Whilst I want us to do even better next season and am quietly hoping that Tony Bloom will let Gus have a competitive transfer budget as part of the master plan, I really think the fundamental issue is the tactics.

We generally did well at The Amex this season but were disappointing away from home. We seemed to respect struggling teams far too much - for example Coventry, Doncaster, Forest, Millwall and even Barnsley and Watford (who had been in freefall when we played them) all of whom looked beatable if we had been more assertive. Yes most of these teams were fighting for their survival and not to be underestimated but they often looked like average League 1 sides from last year. I think Gus's rather conservative tactics this season cost us a potential 10 points. We seem content to play deep and invite opposing sides onto us even after we took the lead, ending up with draws / defeats that might well have been wins / draws at worst. Yet last season we often bullied such sides away from home.

If we are serious about being promotion contenders next season then we will have to win/draw far more away games - which means playing more positively.

Dare I suggest the difference between us and Reading / Southampton is that they set out with a more positive approach and of course play a more direct style.
