I don’t think you know how lucky you are living in England . Try living in America if you are going to moan about human rights . England has probably the best human rights in Europe .
You may as well go the whole hog and compare us to China.

We're turning into a police state, its what the Tories want

Were we in the EU/EEC from 1973 onwards? The answer is yes. We progressed as they progressed.
Amongst he 4000 EU regulations that Rees-Mogg wants to trash includes maternity leave.
I don't get what the problem is? Are you saying that we should have two laws about maternity pay, one saying you get 14 (rising to 18) weeks at SSP rates and the other saying you get a year at SMP rates?

We have not progressed as the EEC/EU has progressed. We have gone far beyond the EU standard. Passing a law saying that we must enforce the EU standard (which couldn't be binding on future governments anyway) could only be a retrograde step.

I didn't say we were passing a law enforcing the EU standard.

The tragic irony being that the people and newspapers who are cheering these Tory attacks on human rights, civil liberties and peaceful protests are the same people and newspapers who, in every general election, scream that the election of a Labour government would herald the death of democracy and freedom, and see Britain turned into North Korea.

Clearly the Tories over the past number of years has become more far right in its views they know they will be out of office in just over a year from now and intend to push through as many ideological laws and fundamental changes to what’s left of state funded services as they can in the time they have left.
Make no mistake a number of Tory MPs and a very large number of supporters are neofascists

And that’s exactly how human rights are stealthily degraded. By fooling people into comparing ourselves with others.

“Well, we’re not as bad as America, or China or Iran”

You’re looking one way and they’re swiping your rights away.

Its almost insane that we led the way on Human Rights for a few centuries regarding abolition of slavery, Trade Unions etc etc.. however, something changed post Brexit whereby this government thought that they could just cherry pick the Laws and Rights that suit them and their supporters.

So expect workers rights to be reduced, the right to vote made more difficult and yes, they will try to ignore/withdraw from whatever Human Rights agreements that " stifle " business's ability to make more money at the expense of its workers. And expect them to demonise asylum seekers and strip them of their rights as the government trys to hang on to the Red Wall Racists

We are a failing country and it really isn't going to turn around under this government.

It is not going to turn around but let's hark back to the Covid days. The people on the streets protesting against the shit show, were on here deemed to be far right, conspiracy theorists, while you sat at home believing everyword that bell end said in his daily 6pm broadcast. So before blaming Tory voters, look at yourself.

That was not about Tory voters, that post was about a failing government who have taken this country slowly but surely down the toilet.
