Hughton: "I have no doubts we'll be ready come that first game of the season."

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Bloom, like Gibson at Boro and Benham at Brentford have very deep pockets but because they support the team as fans they are happy to do it. None of em are in it to make a fortune
What's the quickest way to make a small fortune owning a football club? Start with a large one.
The chairman are effectively subsidising their clubs with their vast fortunes. And with millions each year.
we're lucky to have him.

Pleas for him to make way for well who ?
Or would you prefer the chaos of a Cellino, Tan, the Venkys, Forest or even Bianchi at Sheff Weds spending line crazy one minute or changing the clubs very traditions and then who knows ?

Most fans would be horrified at the very thought.
But some on here seem quite keen on it.
Fair enough . Be careful what you wish for.

Ignore him. He's on a wind up.

What a weird choice to quote my post.

My post was mocking the illogical comment that Chris should "stop talking" and start signing people.

He was talking because he was in an interview.

But, of course, you have seemed to completely misunderstood what is going on and have targeted my post even though it doesn't actually make any sense in terms of your response.

You seem obsessed with me. It's VERY flattering but this ship has sailed x

WTF? Who do you think you are. Astounding arrogance.

The club keep peddling BS about 'top 6' (talking), but fail to sign players that can deliver that (action).

If you can't see this, then you are seriously deluded.

I correctly picked your post to respond to. IMHO your post chose to make a totally irrelevant point, whilst failing to focus on the real issue (see above).

Did you not see what happened last summer, and the resulting poor season? Are you happy to see a repeat this season?

Limit the amount of mass marketing at season ticket holders, reduce the visibility of Barber so he's more like other CEO's rather than preaching about profits every five mins while sitting on a 450k salary...and be honest about the expectations rather than claim we're aiming for promotion via the play-offs when plainly we no longer have the budget for that.

Annoying as it can be. Mass marketing generates income for the club.

Barber's visibility isn't something we should ever criticise. Much better this way than the other way round. And also, when he speaks, he's honest and genuinely seems like he cares about the club. He's got an impossible job really though. To try to keep us happy whilst having no control over results and trying to maximise revenue.

We got to the playoffs two times. They are a realistic target for us. Didn't TB/PB say a million times that our budget actually increased under Sami? This is the first season we'll have had under a stable manager who knows what he wants.

Expectations??

v Forest I expect a loss and would take a draw (0-0 probably) now.

I just hope we can stay up and stay as high as we can until we get a Chairman and Manager capable of fulfilling our dreams.
We have the dream already don't we? A fantastic stadium and training complex. To slate the chairman is poor form IMO.

I'm happy to give the club 10 days to get in 2 more signings before, to use insulting NSC vernacular, 'wetting the bed'.

That should give us a fighting chance vs Forest, and still time to get in 3 more before transfer deadline day.

Are Forest ready though? They have only signed an 18 year old goalkeeper, the overrated defensive failure Matt Mills and the admittedly pretty good at this level Jamie Ward. Their forums also have several threads bitching about not being ready, FFP and sundry other this club lacks ambition BS. They also look like losing Lansbury to Burnley.

Though they are supposed to be under a transfer embargo aren't they? So I suppose that is good enough...

I think we are all having our views skewed by Boro and Derby this transfer window. Both of these have absolutely decided to 'go for it' this season, one or both will be in trouble if they do not make it. That is one heck of a risk to take with a community asset like a football club, when there are only three promotion spots. I personally prefer our more sensible approach.

All that being said, we have to sign a winger or attacking midfielder before the season starts. We have enough for a first team squad everywhere else, though lacking cover in several positions, but relying on Lua Lua and March for creativity is unacceptable for a club with this budget.

Having not played a single game I can't believe how anyone can be so bloody negative.

Well, let me take you through the issue...

Last season, our primary problem was we couldn't score. Do you agree?

If you agree, do you think signing 1, count them 1, striker, zero wingers, and zero creative midfielders has addressed the problem? If so, you are deluded.

You call me negative, I say I'm being realistic.

Right now you are being overly negative, if we still have not signed another first team attacking player by 7th August then your vitriol will be well placed. Can you see that?

a couple of kids we're now dressing up as first teamers

...
Hughton on

Harper has "undoubted potential ...his next step is to move up to senior football"
Hambo "he will begin by playing u21 games... I'd like to see him pushing for a place in the first team
Squad this season"

We got good PR out of Harper true. Those softies at the Mail, telegraph, the sun were all taken in and wrote up the "stunt".

Hughton doesn't seem to have got the memo though as curses he's not sure if they're first teamers at all.

Once again I am in total agreement. Sick and tired of this impatient desire to spend loads of cash just for the sake of it attitude. As has been pointed out before the £20m spent on Rhodes and McCormack (whoa actually scored craploads of goals) hardly did Blackburn or Fulham a lot of good in the final analysis last season.

I'm happy we are being running sensibly, and I am also patient enough to understand that getting out of this league is a very hard thing to do indeed. We'll get promoted if and when we are ready. I am perfectly happy for us to be a solid championship club at the moment. I want to see us score more goals and be more entertaining than last season, and I believe we will be, even if it may not be enough for promotion.

Well, I'm in the 'give them time to gel' camp. I genuinely believe signing (good) players before pre-season is far more important than most seem to realise. Fail to plan, plan to fail, so... no, I don't agree...

So far this summer we've signed a premier league defender, a La Liga striker, a 19 year old "starlet", a World Cup / proven Champ full back and an international goalkeeper to be our #2.

And last season Hughton signed a international with Champions League experience.
It's quite a scrapheap. An expensive one too. Admittedly his loans didn't exactly do the business.
Some clubs (forest, Blackburn , Leeds) can't even do that due to their FFP restrictions .

(pS: Doesn't mean we're ready, they'll perform better than last season and other clubs, somewhere, will have signed better players and more of them)

Morning Joseph.

So they will be ready on 7th August, but will move back in to a state of unreadiness by the end of the transfer window?

My point is not really about whether Forest are ready or not, or whether we are or anybody else is. More that we are not yet at the point for this club bashing melt down that lots of posters are having on this thread. No creative attacking players signed before Forest? Sure fill your boots, attack the club, wet the bed, burn your season ticket whatever makes you feel better, but we are not there yet.

I have to say that there definitely appeared to be a bit of... "the fans are getting restless, let's announce 2 development squad signings as borderline first team players to keep them happy"... about the announcements of our 2 latest acquisitions...

Going back to the opening statement....I would fecking well hope so, that he has no doubts we will be ready. If we are not ready after 3 months of the summer then we are seriously up the creek.

I am assuming that he is not signing strikers and wingers because either a) he has some in the pipeline or b) he is not seeing it as a priority with baldock and cog still at the club.

What I find interesting is the comments he has made about crofts...." Like having a new signing" .

Please SAUCE that. Show me one message from a BHA fan asking for any of the above chairman mentioned as opposed to Bloom.

Also can we get a :ban:

Again, you've got the wrong end of the stick.

I'll try and clarify for a second time just to help you out.

My post was mocking an illogical statement. I didn't write a SINGLE opinion on our transfer activity, a SINGLE comment on how prepared we are.

Yet you seem to be arguing with me........when I never even made a comment about anything!

So, yes, that's why you seem to have targeted my post.

Now, quote something that actually makes sense for you to argue with. Maybe a mirror?

Please see my point about players needing time to gel in pre-season (especially when you need to bring in so many players because you ****ed up the season before).

Did you not see what happened as a result of leaving it late last season?

I agree that time to gel is ideal, but it just isn't the way of things anymore. If you want the best players, at this level, you normally have to wait. I can only see Boro and Derby getting their business done early this transfer window, and even Boro will be pushing Rhodes right to the end of the window. As it stands you are reviewing the clubs transfer window business in a negative light 10 days before the first game, and a full five weeks before the close of the window. That is unreasonable. As I said, I will be joining you on the burn Barber bandwagon if we sign no one else for the final third by Forest, but right now I am willing to wait and see.
