But that is effectively a tax on low income families. ???

Simsters right in his economically illiterate way.

VAT is a non progressive lumpsome tax.

But with exemptions on food etc it is a bit progressive, BUT the EU will get rid of this, when labour signed the constitution it gave the bueurocrats the power to rule us.

Fullsome praise from the economic "brains" of the right. How is that "economically illiterate" then? I doubt I'll get a proper answer - well not one I can understand anyway.

Um, good argument. Well done. Still, at least it shows I do 'mix' within society, as opposed to the sad, lonely and frightened among us who don't actually believe in the concept of society.

And how can not putting VAT on food be considered progressive? Actually, don't bother answering that. I'm not interested, and it's not wise try and reason with the unfathomably unreasonable.

coming from a working class background(grandad was a miner etc.) i would typically vote (old) labour

new labour don't appeal to me as a government at all (basically conservatives with a slight socialist edge), although the pavillion mp IS ok in my book

it'll either be labour, lib dem or a wasted vote on a minor party

I can't believe the amount of Tories, are people taking the piss?

The country would be a bit stuffed without them. The whole political system is based of government with opposition. Without them there would effectively be Dictator Blair. Who ever you support the Tories need Labour and Labour need the Tories.

Personally I vote for a party on its policies and a candidate on their abilities. I'm not so narrow minded to say I would never vote for one party or I will always vote for another. The exception being BNP of course. Floating voter me and proud of it.

'opposition' being the key word here. new labour are only slightly more socialist than the tories. a decent opposition would be the lib dems or greens

the tories problem is that new labour have 'stolen' a lot of their policies- they have to decide where they go from here. if they go to the left they will lose a lot of their core support(which may be being lost to bnp, ukip etc.)

if they go to the right they will lose the central ground, and it is much easier to win from the centre

you also can't be the opposition when you're pretty much the same as the people in power

My vote is still up for grabs.

For various reasons I could not vote for any of the "major" parties, but could be tempted by an English version of the SSP.

yea, but lib dems are so useless at local level they'd be a disgrace nationally!

Oh and don't get me started on the bloody hippies!

Ok so Baker is in oposition to the football stadium and is a bit of a tool BUT your vote should not be made purely on the basis of the football stadium and I could never vote Tory.

And you call me patronising?

Tactical voting has always been done. That is what I choose to do.
I have voted Lib Dem, Tory and Labour in my life. I vote for the candidates or the policies depending on which constituency I live in and the political situation at the time. I make a considered choice at the time. I would never write off any mainstream political party by saying I could never vote for them.

That was not patronising Yorkie, just my opinion.

I fully understand tactical voting but was making the point that to use your vote purely based on Falmer is a bit silly because there are far more important issues like health, education and public services.

You say it isn't patronising calling my vote silly?

Richie I am well aware of education public services etc etc and I know what the Lib Dems stand for and what the Tories stand for.

I have been voting since I was 21 (they lowered the age after I got to 21) so don't call my decision silly.

My local MP has a large majority and is a well known supporter of blood sports. Can't see myself bothering next time.

Foxhunting aside, she is a bit of a thorn in the side of the Labour party. I have just read she is the 3rd labour MP most likley to oppose the government.

But I still can't see myself bothering, she'll win hands down.

Yorkie, I did not say your choice was silly I said that to make a decision on who to vote for purely on the basis of Falmer is silly which in my opinion it is.

Why does the fact you have been voting for ages change anything?
