How seriously are you taking social distancing?

I'm afraid that you and your friend who sent you the photo have fallen for the old compacted image perspective trick of using a long lens to shock and awe. Once again.

That building on the left is Lawns Cafe. It is roughly 500 mtrs from the flats shown in the distance. The photographer is probably another 200 metres further back. So the total distance is at least 700 metres.

If you knew the area, or even looked on Google maps you could work this out yourself.

Now look again - families from the same habitation, runners, lone walkers. The density of people is actually very low.

The old bill would be wasting their time and have better things to do.

And I'm wasting my time too.

One of my best friends is part owner of the café and I run past the lawns four times a week when I'm well. However, I've had a cough for the last 10 days and one of the last places I was exercising was there.

It should be next to empty.

Had similar near here (though without the coughing fortunately). We have a disused railway line which is now a pedestrian and cycle path (on the Sustrans network). I tend to cycle along it at about a quarter of the pace I would on the road. Came towards a dog walker, rang my bell expecting him to move to the side of the path, so I could cycle past on the other side, but he just carried on nonchalantly straight down the middle. I wonder if these people are so anti-cycling that they're more worried about their grudges than the social distancing?

In 2017 and 2018 barbed wire, nylon line and logs, were set along legit mountain bike paths in Stanmer Park .... probably by control freak non-cyclists.

They must be having kittens just now with the amount of cyclists out and about.

I have a smashing new protocol which I wish to share and see adopted.

If I can punch you hard in the face, you are standing too close to me.

I thank you.

Hove Lawns would have been a red river.

Just adopt my new COVID strategy and punch them hard in the face. If they are within the swing circle.

Are you wearing a face mask now when shopping? When a scientist does, many will follow.

No I'm not.

The mask wearers think they are protecting themselves. But actually they are only protecting others, if they have the virus, because they can't send out projectile breath.

I am a discrete and cautious person, out and about. I keep my distance, and don't laugh out loud at the nipper's sublime jokes (ahem). If I get COVID I am only going to spread it for a few days (till I get ill) to people encroaching on my space.

As I nearly said to a daft bint encroaching on me a few days ago in Macknade 'Darling', it's me who has the irritating cough and slight temperature . . . . . . but you carry on'.

I don't have any symptoms, but . . . .

No I shall operate the 'if I can punch you without stepping forward I will' rule (and I have been back on the bendy bar, so watch out world) and hope for the best.

Hyde park was absolutely packed today !! People beginning to lose interest in London.

Same thing over here this weekend... a lot of people in bars and restaurants. Obviously not as many as a normal year but much more than two weeks ago.

The nice weather could have waited another week or two...

So you know for certain that it was there you picked up a cough? The OP is right in his assessment imo

Far more cars on the road this weekend in and around Brighton, Hove, Devils Dyke, large groups of walkers. A couple of weeks ago things were eerily quiet.

People are bored, in certain situations the lockdown is wearing thin it appears.

Still in Brighton
It's my Dad's birthday tomorrow, so we we walked the dog to my parents house, which is literally 'round the corner' to drop his presents off, we were going to leave them on the step, but the front door was open, so I put them in the hall and called out, they were having lunch, so came to the hall, I was trying to keep my distance, as the dog was trying to get into the lounge !! My Mum then says, "We've been a bit naughty, Mavis is here". This is her good family friend, who lives in Hailsham, we are in Crowborough, so she has driven down, picked her up and had her stay for the Easter Weekend. I am fuming. My daughter lives with my ex in Brighton, I haven't seen her for about 5 weeks, and don't envisage seeing her for another 4/5 weeks, because I/we are following guidelines. My Mum is an intelligent/educated woman, a teacher of 20 odd years. If people like that are sticking 2 fingers up to the restrictions, no surprise if these will be extended for weeks more

Spoke to a friend today - he said he hadn't been coping well mentally on his own, so he'd had the girlfriend round for the Easter weekend. She has significant heart issues.

Spoke to another friend later - she hasn't been coping well on her own and has recently met different friends in their garden and for a walk. Initially, she said they maintained 2m distance but after a while this lapsed, as it will.

Spoke to a third friend - who was not doing well mentally on their own and invited me round to watch netflix (warm, no chilling). I said no.

I'm not being judgemental as i do hear them and understand the difficulties but I'm currently still sticking to the rules (mainly as above, I'm sure I'd start by keeping 2m but after time passes I can't see this being maintained by us. Therefore, I'm resisting temptation).

I therefore agree that the government was right to put off this "lockdown" as it did as it can't be maintained well even after 3 weeks. We've given the NHS breathing space to get ready and increase capacity. Sadly some have died who probably shouldn't have (I mean by this the nurses, doctors, bus drivers rather than the very vulnerable who are very high risk). I suppose this very sad collateral damage was "necessary" rather than an earlier lockdown. But there by the grace of god go I. Rip to those who have died well before their time.

Can't say I've noticed a difference here. Cycled six miles along one of the main roads between Leeds and York and saw about four cars. Normally I wouldn't take my bike on there.

I find it pretty disgusting the way the Argus keeps doing this. Although of course it's not surprising at all. I walked down the promenade today and there were people about but the vast, vast majority very much respecting at least 2m distance, and as you say it wasn't anywhere near busy enough for people not to be respecting 2m anyway.

And it's funny that the argus is trying to shame people by sending a photographer down to the coast who is then part of the supposed problem they're reporting

Tykes are better disciplined then. It was very much like that on bikes rides to the Dyke and through Saddlescombe for the first couple of weeks of lockdown, a surreal once in a lifetime experience of a vehicle every few minutes. Traffic’s picked up a lot over the last week.

Here
A lot more traffic and bikes and ********s on the road today. Coming back to Brighton from Shoreham via the locks where there was about 7/8 people either side keeping the right distance and patiently making way for each other to cross over when this guy, probably late 60's/early 70s pushed his way forward with his bike from the back of the queue coming towards me, pushed his bike past everyone in his queue going within 1/2 feet of them as he elbowed his way past them and was basically telling people to get out go his ****ing way, that they were all morons for waiting patiently to cross over and passed within a foot of me as he elbowed his bike and himself past the queue I was in. The guy was a complete wanker...what is it with some people?
