How seriously are you taking social distancing?

Myself and my partner just walking to local co op for basic bits which is half a mile up road...each time someone is walking towards us on pavement we move past them on the road or cross over. It's us that does it several times in that short walk the others seem to just expect us to do it rather than themselves which we both commented on. I believe around 90%or more do perhaps, as my partner suggests it's a lot lower as the brief encounters we've had in a small village

Going the numbers mentioned by the government throughout, 15% seems to the proportion who throughout can't be arsed with any of this. The authorities and independent epidemiologists are always delighted with the 85% stat, it massively reduces the UK's likely death toll.

For me it nails the proportion of the country who totally selfish scum, often criminally minded anyway, going by the numerous validated reports of emergency workers being spat and coughed at.

Sadly, in any community, irrespective of size, there will always be a minority who don't care at all, and are totally shameless. These will be precisely the same people, who, having then developed the virus, will be the ones in A&E being abusive and demanding treatment ahead of others. Scum is the only word that can describe th

15% sounds very high to me! It equates to some 9 million people and, although I think the media have hyped up the instances of bell cheeses ignoring or at least skirting the edges of what's permissible (partly I think because the guidance could be rather clearer anyway?), I think observance has been pretty good!?

Maybe I just live in a particularly law abiding neck of the woods but the pictures over Easter across the country at least seemed to support the idea that observance is pretty high?

Personally I'd put observance at more like 99.9%. That still gives you 60,000 people who don't give a stuff......! Probably more like the reality.

I think equating the 15% quoted with the "selfish scum .... often criminally minded" is a bit of a stretch too.

I read earlier whether social distancing measures can be changed is being reviewed by Thursday - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52266314

They need to get on and formally announce and clarify what's going to happen and that lock-down is being extended though and get the message across, as I'm convinced there will be some people who think it ends tomorrow - 'but someone said on Facebook it's ended, 'cos that Boris bloke said it was only for 3 weeks ' - I can see it happening.

As far as I was aware they were waiting as long as possible to have the most up to date data....I’d imagine it won’t just be to say formally that the current measures will continue but to give guidance on the immediate future which will be more important...’Facebook guy’ will just have to be disappointed

Quick question, did we have some form of social distancing a few years ago? Reason for asking is, I'm a key worker and I was given a travel permit in case I'm stopped going to work, I was told that this was the third time this has been issued to us. The first time was when there was the fuel shortage, being key worker we were able to get petrol instead of queuing, so we were able to journey to and from work. not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me but was there another time when we had queuing to get in to supermarkets?

If we say it is circa 15%, they need to announce the extension of lock-down as soon as soon they can in my opinion. I can see a lot of idiots in this country thinking everything will go back to normal tomorrow.

I am genuinely wondering if my employer is also waiting to see what is announced before making moves to mobilise resources to issue more equipment to WFH.

It's shame that the actions of ars*holes will mean that this is extended and possibly make the lockdown more draconian for everyone. But more importantly, they are causing others lose their lives.

Do they care? Absolutely not.

The 15% would include these incredibly selfish families and individuals:

Teenage age couples still meeting up.
Families and couples (plural) out for a stroll, mingling.
People having parties eg 18th and 21st's.
Groups of lad playing football.
BBQ's with guests.
Having the grandparents round.
Mini pelotons of cyclists.

I've seen all that with increasing regularity, countless posters in this thread have, and it's been well covered by the police.

They're breaking the rules, possibly costing the lives of others down the line.

Just been to the local coop, woman in there with a face mask on, scratching the front of it with her bare hands, as if she was scratching her chin. Wtf! Bloody hope she weren't touching food that she weren't buying.

Out for my daily exercise today, cycling around 15 miles from home. Half-way round we were on a bridleway / track - about 2.5m wide. And elderly couple came the other way on foot, so we stopped and hugged ourselves against the fence on one side, expecting them to walk close to the other side. Not only did they make no real attempt to walk on the other side, but as they approached, one woman started coughing and continued coughing all the way past us. And then asked us in a very accusatory tone 'do you live round here?'. First time I've actually been worried about catching this thing.

Did you answer her?

I answered that 'Yes, just out from Grange'. But I was so shocked at her carefree coughing, and so surprised, I didn't quite know what to do. Then was disappointed with myself on the way home that I didn't at least say something - or even do something more to protect us. I just wasn't expecting it, as almost everyone else I have met in the last few weeks has been quite respectful and careful (except for the biddies going the wrong way round the Co-op, but I think that's just because they don't know where they are or what's going on half the time anyway). Put all our clothing in the washer when we got home and had a shower - but it felt a bit like stable doors.

Is anybody else seeing discarded gloves and anti bacterial wipes when out exercising? I saw a few yesterday.

Had similar near here (though without the coughing fortunately). We have a disused railway line which is now a pedestrian and cycle path (on the Sustrans network). I tend to cycle along it at about a quarter of the pace I would on the road. Came towards a dog walker, rang my bell expecting him to move to the side of the path, so I could cycle past on the other side, but he just carried on nonchalantly straight down the middle. I wonder if these people are so anti-cycling that they're more worried about their grudges than the social distancing?

A couple of pubs near me that were doing takeaway have now stopped. One had a sign up saying it was 'due to Government restrictions.' When ope for takeaways, one did have a few people turning up randomly to buy booze and hand over things to fill up what they had left on draught, and hanging around outside to wait. Anyone know anything elsewhere or a specific reason as to why?

Just got sent this. Assuming it's this weekend (and the café is closed, so I assume so) then time to get the Old Bill down on the lawns permanently. ****ing shocking :nono:

I'm afraid that you and your friend who sent you the photo have fallen for the old compacted image perspective trick of using a long lens to shock and awe. Once again.

That building on the left is Lawns Cafe. It is roughly 500 mtrs from the flats shown in the distance. The photographer is probably another 200 metres further back. So the total distance is at least 700 metres.

If you knew the area, or even looked on Google maps you could work this out yourself.

Now look again - families from the same habitation, runners, lone walkers. The density of people is actually very low.

The old bill would be wasting their time and have better things to do.

And I'm wasting my time too.
