I think it dates back to 1996 and was originally run by Manx Seagull. I avoided it until about March 1999 as I was pretty sure it was going to be the home of geeks and nerds!

I started posting in early 98, the only posters I can remember from around that time were Simster, Cheeky Monkey, Kosh and DTE...although I am sure there are still a few kicking around of that vintage, they may have changed their names a few times, I certainly have!

I started posting around about then too. I didn't start off as Gwylan but I can't remember my username. There were several versions of NSC in those early days and I had to re-register a couple of times. I remember Wozza was around then as it was he who persuaded me to join it.

Bloody hell, is it as old as that?! I think i was oblivious to the internet until about 1999-2000.
Does anyone know what football forum can claim to be the first?

Don't think it was called North Stand Chat back in 1996, but I was there with my Mac OS 8.6, and my spanking 28.8 modem.

I certainly remember reading Richard Vaughan's message of December 6th, 1996, and thinking what a great idea it was...

I remember using the board in 1996, all the way from New Zealand. It was a huge asset when up til that point I had relied on clippings from the Argus to keep in touch.

That early version didn't require registration and you just typed in whatever username you wanted every time you posted.

Yeah, well, right, thing is, right, I knew five days before he was going, like, to write...

Oh, whatever.

Sorry, it's just that I happened to have read that section this afternoon, and I have a good memory for dates.

It was around in 96, I remember organising a mass snowball attack on David Bellotti's house in Eastbourne on 'here'. Ah, those were the days!

(I think a photo of the visit are in Stuart Weir's book).

The very first one I was aware of was a bulletin board run by the footie magazine When Saturday Comes. This COULD have been as early as 1994, it was certainly back in the days when being a comms programmer and getting remote devices to talk to each other and transfer files was a valued skill, not like today when people just plug stuff in and it all connects automatically. Anyway I digress, but the WSC board (it wasn't called a 'site' then) was shit, which jaundiced me against 'hobby' boards.

I lurked on NSC for a while before posting (can't remember what name I used as you didn't have to register). I think one of the first threads I posted on was about Man of Harveys getting a cat.

In that case I think I can remember you, think there might have been a Henfield one at the same time...I also recollect people using the name of a player and an item of clothing as a user name...my alter ego was Chris Ramsay's socks!

Weren't you "Old, Fat and Bald" then? I mean your username obviously.

Well remembered, I never did get that cat. I think I was asking for name suggestions for it, with the name "Bobby" leading the way.
