Ain't that the truth

I really do have to come out of the closet and say I thought yesterday was a superb game of football and about one of our best home performances of the season. We really gave the Sky audience a treat - and when was the last time we could say that - maybe that win over QPR that seems ages ago?

Can't help but agree. I thought it was a great game until we lost.
In fact although not superstitious I decided to watch on Sky as of I recall 5 such televised matches I have never seen Brighton lose when watching on TV, until yesterday.

I have a lot of faith in McGhee but in all fairness the 'doing well in difficult circumstances' argument is a great safety blanket for him.

Where do we draw the line? There has to be a point where the managers contribution is below par of what is expected, even considering the exceptional working conditions.

I think that point is blurred.

"Blurred"? What a fecking cop-out.

Carry on sitting on the fence - I'm amused that the "Magoo out" brigade don't even have the guts to say whether they back him or not :)

what a interesting response to this thread.

I'd just like to make it clear I didnt start this as an Anti-McGhee thread at all,I was just curious to gauge the fans opinions.

and its been interesting!

what reassured me today was remembering when we so almost survived in 2002-3, we still only had 20 points in february

And we'd given the rest of the division a 30 point head start.

Two seasons ago in January there was a thread saying 'We might as well end the season now' or similar.

Plenty to play for.

personally it works like this:

if we get relegated is HOW we went about it, if we lost out on gol difference on on the last game then McGhee wont be evil in my eyes. If we drifted and were down by early April then he might have to answer to my right foot.

I give you this scenario about transfers,

Brighton approach Villa asking about Henderson Villia quote 150k for him, Mcghee then asks DK for the funds who then turns around and says sorry we cant afford that, why? becasuse have just spunked 150k on a striker that you refuse to play.

150k is not a lot of money but to brighton it is and so far it seems to be wasted.

I seem to remember before the season started Dick Knight claiming it was his friend that tipped HIM off about CKR and also I think Dick also claimed that the argie was recommended to HIM by Liam Brady. At no stage did Dick claim that these players where SPOTTED BY and being requested by MM. I Also think no matter what money is spent on players Dick always says yes or no. So has MM got to take full responsibillity for those two signings?

I'll only question him if,in the event of relegation, he doesn't bring us straight back up automatically next season.

McGhee should stay for his overall achievements in a difficult job, but to get my full respect he needs to stand up sometimes. If Dodd had come on when Harty got sent off, the end of the game WOULD have been different. We might still have lost but it would have been different.

Dodd might have made a better job of the tackle than the soft attempt from Carole and we might not have conceded possession so easily, then Charlie might not have been tempted to tackle back leaving McEnuff the chance.

But no, much better to do nothing and hope for the best. Then when it falls apart, blame Harty by implication and blame the fourth official for doing his job.

I know absolutely nothing about management of a football team: but it seems to me that after regaing a one goal lead at 50 some odd minutes from LKs penalty, surely Dodd should have been put on as I am told he has experience and is a great one for rallyng the troops, so he could have stiffened up the back field and been a morale booster to hold on to the one goal lead, which is something we have failed to do so many times this season.

:nono: Watch the tape again - there was no problem with Carole's work. As desperate searches for scapegoats go, this lacks any logic whatsoever.

Carole tackled back excellently all game yet people wanted to put on in the last few minutes a slower player and someone with practically no football behind him in the last two months :nono:

Thank God McGhee is manager and not any of you lot!

Accept the fact - El Abd's excellent work just failed him slightly with a weak, directionless header for the third goal and then McAnuff got a lucky deflection. That's it - end of.

....including many times when Dodd has been on the pitch too!!!!

Firstly, I'm 100% behind McGhee. I think he's the best manager we've had since Chris Cattlin and I trust him to see us through to survival at the end of the season.

However, I have a comment about the 'Dodd sub' question....

From what I saw on the TV we defended far too deeply after Hart was sent off. Palace were able to run right through almost to the penalty box, and from this they were in a position to get the shot off. I think that if Dodd was on (probably for CKR) then two things would have happened:

I believe that Dodd would have pushed us further up the field and also Carole would have been able to provide more tackling in midfield. The combination of these two factors would have kept Palace that bit further upfield. Sure, they might still have scored (from a ball through our defence?) but I'm convinced we would have made it harder for them.

Still, everyone has 20/20 hindsight.

Yes he does, if mcghee doesnt want a player the club wont sign him, that is of course Dick Knight is 100% behind him.

Of course we defended deep with 10 players! Play 2 up front and you leave huge gaps they could just walk through.

I'm sure we would have defended further up the field with 11 players! You've neglected the rather vital information of who you would have taken off for Dodd.

Oh, and ball through our defence was how they DID score.

I said Dodd on for CKR further up. They didn't score with a ball through our defence to another player (which we could have been open to by playing further upfield) but with a shot through our defence.

One thing that was noticeable during the last few minutes was how many times we tried to find CKR and didn't. He might just as well have been off anyway.
