Manfredd Mann's Earthband were supported by Racing Cars (They Shoot Horses Don't They). I thought R.C.'s were superb and wondered how Manfredd would be able to better them......
but, boy, did they better them! They were awesome and I wasn't a particular fan. Just went along because they were big at the time.
Saw Camel at the Dome. Very good but even better at the Royal Albert Hall.
Also saw Manhattan Transfer (Chanson D'Amour etc) at the Centre. They were surprisingly good. Very entertaining act.
Best by far though was Queen at the Centre. Who said that place has crap acoustics? Queen just played superbly and you didn't notice.

I saw most of the top punk bands in Brighton in the late 70's early 80's. One of the best gigs has to be Stiff Little Fingers at the Top Rank Suite in 80/81. I also remember the ig for the outfit I wore - red plastic mini skirt, black leather jacket, black fish net tights & doc martins:O

I went to most punk gigs and was at this one I think. My brain is a bit scrambled now as it was then :D

Also Remember the Sisters of Mercy at the Top Rank and Spear of Destiny at the Dome

Saw:

Sad Cafe (first concert I ever went to)
Joan Armatrading
Ultravox twice
Simple Minds twice
Big Country twice
Spandau
But the really big one was JAPAN!!!! Still the best concert I have ever been to.

Talking of Marillion... I saw Fish solo in Ankara ten years ago in a club designed like a sunken city. I was on the balcony of one of the ruined houses and Fish was excellent.... runs Japan close.

Saw several of those, but was living nearer to London than Brighton in the late 70s, so saw most of my gigs from that era up there.

Did see Uriah Heep at the Dome though.

And The 'Oo at the Centre...

And New Order and Wah! Heat at the Top Rank (not on the same bill sadly)... Was supposed to have seen SLF at the Top Rank in 1979 but my mate crashed the car we were in on the way there...

The one that stands out for me was at the Event in the mid-nineties. Anybody else see Black Grape there?

Fantastic - one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Yep I was at that one, truly brilliant gig, very very sweaty too.

and the support were truly dire. The mighty Kaliphs - all Ali G wannabes before anyone had heard of Ali G.

It was v.v. sweaty and in the crowd were Fatboy, geezers from Primal Scream, Annie Nightingale, Paul Morley.

It absolutely rocked.

I don't remember the support as I was a bit wasted as I tended to be at gigs around that time. I think I saw the Orb at the event a week later who were equally as awesome.
